OKW-- Pool Slide

On one of the threads (can't find it now), someone said that when they were recently over at Hank's, they were told that plans were underway to put a slide up in OKW's pool.

I called Member Services today and they told me this is not true but that if anything is decided, a notice will be posted on the dvc website. (which I know, I get far more info here on this site so I'm not waiting for them)

Do you think the rumor is true?

Someone has asked on the other site if they need member approval to do this since dues would go up...do you think that is true?

You would need life guards if you have a slide. I would not want to pay for life guards so some kids can have a slide. On the other hand life guards would stop kids from jumping into the pools all the time. That would be a plus. The parents don't stop their kids that is for sure. At any rate I vote for no slide. People bought here without a slide. Let us keep that way.

It's no big deal to me either way. There was a survey a couple of years ago that went to a segment of the OKW members. It gave the cost to install and the cost for ongoing maint including lifegards in per point costs. The vote was pretty overwhelming for no slide. My memory is about 1/3 for and 2/3 against. There was a poll a few months ago about the same issue and it was pretty close to that as well I believe. I would be there will be no slide at OKW.

According to a member who spoke to the chief finanical person at OKW today ( the one who writes the checks but doesn't make the decisions) a slide is being considered but no decision has been made yet.

I frankly did not believe the original thread (even if the person was accurately relating what they were told). Considering is a long way from building!

IMHO I think you will never see a slide at OKW. And I think the new DVC resort at DI(Saratoga) will have a pool that matches or exceeds that of the SAB.

I am curious, is the slide issue, a issue of a slide or a raise in dues because of the slide? I know a few pennies per point add up real fast to alot of $. I see what seems like strong emotions on this issue here. I am just curious if it is a money issue or not?

Hmmmmm, I think there definitely may be a connection. Personally, I don't care about a slide since both our children are grown now. However, I do think putting a slide in at OKW would equalize the amenities at the various resorts and justify why there is no longer a need for pool-hopping. Didn't pool-hopping begin when OKW was the only DVC resort?

Since the new Saratoga DVC Resort will be so close to OKW, that may be a good option for those who want the slide option.

I usually don't spend too much time at the pool when at WDW, so I am happy with whatever resort I am at. If I really wanted a particular pool, I would probably just make my reservations at that particular resort. Too much trouble to pack up and go visit other pools on my vacation, LOL!!!

I'm not so sure we can safely assume pool hopping will be allowed at the new DVC resort.
