My understanding is OKW did a points reallocation in 1996... Does anyone have a copy of that chart? I am curious how it compared to the 1992 Points Chart when they launched.

The 1992 chart was posted here last year by @drusba; see quoted message below. After the 1996 reallocation the point charts didn’t change (other than accounting for Thanksgiving and Easter moving) for over 20 years, so the 2008 one you can easily find online is the same as the 1996 one.

What I have is an original point chart (attached) contained in the first ever issued OKW Declarations (at the time, it was named the Disney Vacation Club resort), which provides the points per night (in a somewhat different format than point charts thereafter; e.g., it does not specifically state total points needed for a week). Compare that to the 2008 OKW point chart and you will see the changes made from that original point chart in 1996, which actually changed points a little (up or down) almost year round

The big change, by the way, was going from making weekends way more expensive to making weekends slightly more expensive. In a foreshadowing of what was to come, crafty DVC owners were using their points for Sunday-Friday trips, making those lower point days hard to book.

Sorry, don't have the 1996 (or 1992 chart), but per DVC Info it was a change a seasonal reallocation, most likely based upon the demand they saw within the first few years and to align with the season for the opening of BWV (BoardWalk).

"Insert Link" isn't working so URL below:

Per DVC Info, the weekday to weekend shift happened in 2010 & 2011 (not 1996)

1996Reallocation of seasons at OKW
2010Shift in points from weekday to weekend to balance demand; AKV Value and Savannah increased; Standard reduced
2011Shift in points from weekday to weekend (Part II)
The 2010-2011 changes (we view them as one change that had to be implemented over 2 years) were the largest reallocation in the history of DVC.

Yes @CastAStone I have heard members in the early days would book Sunday through Thursday nights and then checkout and stay say, at the Marriott, and then return the following Sunday to stretch out their points and visits.

It's also amazing on the old charts how cheap the fall months used to be. I would be curious to see what the next points reallocation does... Feels to me like Summer is still a little too steep - especially the early part of summer.

Actually, back then members would book Sunday through Thursday on points, then call MS and book the same villa for Friday and Saturday nights on cash with the member discount. No need to pack up and move!
