OKW owners, Gurgling Suitcase

Because if you have an evening flight and you've already had lunch and are packed up and dressed ready for the airport and non-tropical weather at home, then it's a comfortable place to read and relax before the journey. Some times it is hard to find 2 seats together btw, so I promise you, it is used ;)

I guess that makes sense. Personally, we always go home in FL clothes because we can't stand the thought of putting warm clothes back on. Can't even remember the last time we had long pants with us on a trip. I usually wear capris and the boys wear shorts on the way down and on the way back home. Us northerners are a hardy bunch :worship: I do understand where you are coming from though.

How many of you know the origin of the name "gurgling suitcase"? It comes from the old prohibition days when folks would smuggle libations in their luggage....Thus...a gurgling suitcase.;) For the record, I think it follows the OKW theme completely, and I wouldn't change a thing. That is my OPINION. If you don't like it...don't ask.

I don't think we have ever seen anyone in that room. Seriously. Even when our kids were younger, they always waited outside the building with DH or when DD was old enough to watch her brother they would go into the General Store while I checked us in. My kids always wanted to be outside. Why would any wait there anyway? There are so many better things to do than sit in a dark room and wait for your villa to be ready. It is WDW. But I guess there are people who use it or they would have done something better with the space by now.

To be honest, I haven't seen anyone siting in there either. We've been members at OKW since 1997 and I can't remember ever seeing anyone in there except a rep at a desk from time to time. But if it turned into an area like Martha's Vineyard at BC, I wouldn't see any harm in a family sitting on a couch to wait in there. They might even enjoy a cold libation while they wait. I see families on the couches and chairs at Martha's Vineyard all the time. On our last trip there was a family putting together a puzzle on one of the coffee tables at Martha's. Great place to just relax. I sure wouldn't be against doing something like that. Maybe more people would use the area then.

#2 We could all:grouphug: solve this if we got a drink to go from GS and proceeded to the hot tub in an orderly fashion.

IMHO I believe that OKW could support a larger themed watering hole, although I am unsure exactly where it could go. A little evening night life would be a nice addition. I can actually think of several spots, just not sure how acceptable they would be to the masses.

I have often seen people relaxing/sitting/reading in Papa's Den, nor do I think a bar would be appropriate in that particular location attached to the front desk.

However, a small kiosk, similar to the Turtle Shack at the Turtle Pond neighborhood pool, would blend nicely into the OKW theme.

Such a kiosk location would not be expensive, and would not raise dues...as it would likely be built by the developer (DVD) and leased to Disney food/beverage division. The key question is, would Disney find it profitable enough to justify the expense? I guess that depends upon the profit they currently show at Gurgling Suitcase and Turtle Shack.

It isn't a priority for me, as I rarely consume alcohol, but if Disney can justify the need with increased profit, I don't think it would be an awful addition to the OKW main pool area. There is room for a small attractive kiosk by removing some of the plants/lanscaping in the pool area.

Chuck, I totally agree. Just look at the Old Turtle Pond area. That snack bar is almost never open when we are there. I don't think they would approve anything that wasn't going to be profitable.

As for Papa's Den....I'm not sure when the others of you are going that you find it empty, but we find it seems to be well used by families....Maybe waiting for their room to be ready...maybe waiting for DME. It really is the only "lobby" area at OKW, so there is no way they should remove it and put a bar there.

Thats because only a few people want to be at the quiet pool. Most people prefer to hang out where the action is. The fact that Turtle pond is only open during peak times is not a good rationale for how well an establishment would perform elsewhere. Even when staying in this part of OKW we go to the main pool just to people watch. If you crave peace, quiet, and an easy chair Turtle pond is awesome. Most others seek entertainment.

I disagree. One of the reasons we dislike the Old Turtle Pond area is because every time we have been there the hot tub and pool area has been noisy an full of rambuncious ones. It is my least favorite "neighborhood pool" at OKW.
