OKW or Boardwalk Villa Standard?

Since OKW (8 points/ per night for my trip dates) and Boardwalk Villa Standard (9 points/per night for my trip dates), are so close in cost, I'm having a dilemna figuring out what I want to do.

I know OKW is exterior hallways, and much more similar in layout to the moderate resorts (although the balconies are different), I know that the Standard Villas at Boardwalk are a long walk (but that doesn't bother me, we'll be participating in the marathon, so an extra bit of mileage should be ok.

Other than that, though, I'm rather in the dark.

What ones do you guys prefer?

BWV that's why I own there. Do like to stay at OKW at times.

BWVs definately! You can walk to Epcot, the pool is much better, the boardwalk itself is really cool, just a short boat ride or very doable walk to MGM. I've stayed at OKW and it is very nice and relaxing. The rooms are waayyyy bigger, however OKW just can't compete with the location advantages of BWVs.

BWV Standard Views can be difficult to get. If you are talking the marathon this January, I'm almost certain people have posted they are already on the waitlists.

We consistently tell people to go to any resort other than the Boardwalk Standard View Villas.

That way, there's availability for us in our most favorite resort. :rolleyes1

In all honesty, It's hard to beat the feel of the Boardwalk at night, and the excellent location so close to Epcot and MGM.

OKW studio is 2 queen beds with no couch and BWV is one queen with a full size fold out couch. IMO the fold out is not very comfortable for an adult. Depending on the make up of your party that could make a difference, particularly for getting a good night's sleep before the marathon!

Some stays I want to be in the center of things...and close to that BW bakery! Other trips I like to be away from the masses for a little bit...so it's OKW. This December its OKW (my diet may have been the deciding factor!)

The SV studios are not necessarily a long walk from the lobby. It just depends, some are pretty close.(I almost typed "very" but wouldn't want to get your hopes up, some are far.) We've had some (2) on the lobby floor, and they were dedicated studios, very nice.

Bobbi :)

I have heard that there is already not that many studios left for Marathon weekend. This may be a moot point.

If you are running in the marathon, it works very good to be at OKW since the start for the marathon is on the roadway just past the entrance to OKW. You can walk to the start from OKW, but not from BWV.

I am already booked for the days of the marathon at POP (Friday - Sunday), however am looking to extend my stay for the week after the marathon.

Per my understanding, Mon-Thu is still looking good for most studios.

I had to make the same decision for our upcoming Disneymoon. My parents gave us a certain amount of points for our honeymoon... and I was then able to choose the length of stay and the resort to stay at. I have stayed at OKW every year since they started DVC (except for last year - I convinced the family to try BWV.)
I narrowed my choices down to OKW or BWV for this trip... and after some (but not much) thought, I chose BWV. OKW is just too far from everything, it's easier to get back to our room in the middle of the day if we want to take a break, drop off left overs, change clothes, etc...

Now I just need to figure out what type of room to request!!!

It depends on the kind of people you are or are with. If you like to divide up, BWV is better. If you are more family oriented or stay together, OKW is the way to go.

I would not compare OKW to a moderate, in fact, it is comparable to BWV or SSR vs. Coronada Springs or Caribbean Beach/Port Orleans.

Also, the size of the rooms may also play a factor. BWV has very small rooms, especially compared to OKW.

Studios? Aren't they about the same size?
infact BWV studios slightly larger
BWV 412
OKW 390

Its the 1br 2br and GV that are larger than all the rest of the DVC resorts

This is a constant dilemna for us as well! We love OKW in that you can park your car right at your door (usually), and I personally prefer the bathrooms at OKW. I can't stand when the sinks are outside of the bathrooms- they should be by the toilet! Anyway, after staying at BWV though, the proximity to Epcot, and being right at the BW area is a huge perk too. I also thought the bed at BWV was a small queen (if it really IS a queen), so my DH and I were a little cramped since we're used to our king sized bed at home. This is another reason why we prefer OKW- we get our own bed space...although we'd be happy if we had a king size bed to share!!
I also think that the layout of the rooms at OKW do make them seem bigger than BW, even if BW rooms are bigger....

having stayed in both - this is just not right.

I think that this is the BWV plus dedicated. Now it is bigger. and has a day bed.

to OP - completely depends upon you.

I like 2 beds because I hate that sleeper sofa and I can't sleep with anyone.

OKW studios are approx 17sq feet larger than a BWV studio. However, since BWV has 1 queen and a double sleeper sofa vs 2 queen beds, the BWV studios appear larger and less crowded, because you have more floor space.

If you need 2 beds, you will be more comfortable at OKW. The sleeper sofas at all the DVC resorts are ok, but can not compare to a real bed.

Since you will be already staying in the DTD area while at POR, while not try the Epcot area and go with BWV.

Have a great trip and good luck in the marathon! :cheer2:

The size of the resorts don't affect us as much as the ambiance...

If you want to be in the middle of the action... Carnival type atmosphere.. Between Epcot and MGM.. Near several stores are restaurants... Pick BWV..

If you want to stay at an oasis of the Carribean... Surrounded by palm trees and golf courses.. Have Margarittaville and have the Bannana Boat song memorized.. Like pastels and colors that are easy on the eyes. Pick OKW....
