We bought OKW from Disney recently so we have the extended contract. But we were wondering, could we add-on points with the old shorter (cheaper) contract? Obviously that contract would run out in 2042 instead of 2057, but could we buy the same use year, add on and have more points for our 11 month booking window?

That's a good question for your Guide. If you find out please post the answer.

Why did you spend the extra money on the DVC sale instead of just buying resale, if you aren't worried about the extra years?

Just curious, because you could have about any number of points and any UY you would require, correct?

We wanted all our points immediately with no hassles and we wanted the full contract with the extended years. But I was thinking that it might be nice to have extra points during the time we have young grandkids. We probably won't be alive for the end of our OKW contract and it will be nice to pass it along. But in the meantime, if I could have double the points for half the cost upfront, I think I might consider adding on.

All of the contracts for sale thru DVC already have the extended date and they will sell them with that expiration date. You could purchase a resale with the 2042 expiration and if you buy one with the same Use Year it could even be added to your existing contract.

In reality, all OKW contracts now have the 2057 expiration date - but those who declined the extra years do not have that included with their contract (DVD owns the extension). There has already been at least one resale contract with the extended date and more will find their way to the market in the months/years to come.

Thanks for your help. Although we're just getting started, the idea of adding on is pretty much a given. The question becomes whether we add on at OKW for the mega-point contract or add-on to other locations for variety. This info helps us look at how an add-on at OKW would work. If we add-on, I think it will be more for us rather than inheritance for the kids.

If that is your criteria, I would buy the same use year at OKW from resale. YOu will pay less, have the end date you prefer, and if you get the same use year, it will be easier to manage.

If you a certain that you are buying the mega-point contract for life, then I would follow Diane's advice, you may save even more buying a larger (harder to sell) contract that way.

But, if life changes could force you to sell before 2042, then smaller IMO is better, easier to re-sell, and you wouldn't be forced to sell all of a big contract, just the number of smaller contracts that would be necessary. It is a little more expecive this way (More closing costs, more time to find the correct contracts and a higher price pp with 8 X 150 pt OKWs vs a 1,000 pt OKW contract, but way more flexible.

Good Luck.

When we purchased from Disney it was $96 a point, no closing costs and we got last years points + this year's points. We get an extra week of vacation this year for no monthly fees. It was a good deal for us.
