I'm at OKW right now. Just found out that they are renting water mice from Hank's. They have four I think. It seems to be very popular. Also heard news from someone at Hank's (sorry I do not remember him name), but there are plans to build a water slide just like the one at VB. The kids would really love that!

A bit of bad news: At check in the girl informed me that room assignments are no longer being done by seniority of when the reservation was made. They are now first come first serve. Who's stupid idea was this? Don't you think that members should have been warned about this before arrival?

So there's the good and the bad , but I'm here to enjoy my trip anyway!

I am so jealous I love OKW I want to be there right now - We are going to VWL in dec - and I am sure I will love it - I just want to be in WDW NOW! - Would it be wrong of me to us college funds for more DVC points - our kids are smart - they can get scholarships - NO I am only kidding - well maybe

If I understand you right, you mean if someone arrives at 8:00 a.m. they will get their requests over someone who booked 11 months in advance? I hope this girl was misinformed. Can you see it now? People lined up at 6:00 a.m. It just doesn't make sense. I'm going home to OKW in 34 days. Should be interesting. Thanks for letting us know. It will make a difference in the future on whether to take an early or later flight.

When BCV opened Pete had an interview with the general manager. During the interview when they talked about SAB being closed to pool hopping the manager suggested that consideration was being given to enhancements at OKW pool. But as Lisa pointed out it would have to be funded by a dues increase. It makes more sense to Enhance the pool at the new Saratogo Springs DVC and include the cost in the point cost.
Maybe when they have the annual DVC meetings in December something will be announced.

I agree. An OKW special assesment or a substantial dues increase should make my long walk from a BWV elevator that much more enjoyable.

There's been posts on this before....pros and cons of a slide. Also, Member Services did do that survey a few years back where they sent out random questionairres and one of them was whether members would want a slide...the slide idea lost by a small margin...they had given us the results.

I seem to recall that the price per point was small, maybe a few cents and was to go for the maintenance/lifeguard.

Does anyone know if they do have to get a certain level of member support to put something like this in, or does the contract give them a level of discretion without reason?

I'm not sure if I want a slide...have mixed feelings and probably won't care one way or the other...just curious if this will really happen?

Both bits of information were very interesting. BUT.....since CM's are notorious for misinformation, until I see something in writing about a slide, I am not going to speculate. As to the room assignments, they are assigned a few days before your arrival, I doubt it is a first come first serve situation. However, that is something I can find out about tomorrow. It is nice to have friends here and there.

I wonder if the assignments are for cash reservations, not points, and she just didn't know/understand the difference. If they are changing the cash reservations to first come first served, that would make sense, on a trial base of course. That would cut down on all of the faxes they would get.

Get this......on the AOL board a member stated that she was told that requests would be made on when you became a member versus when you made the reservation. This is just too hard to believe too. Sooo......I'm just gonna consider all these reports rumors until we hear something official.
Also.....another member said she was just at OKW last Thursday and there were no water mice. Did they just start renting them out at Hank's this week?

O.K. On the AOL DVC board, it has just been posted that these rumors are indeed true! This member has friends who work at OKW. Apparently, the room assignment change is just a TEST for right now. The water mice for 4 weeks. And there will be a slide sometime in the future......not sure if it will be like the one at Vero or not. There is another member at OKW right now and maybe she can further verify this. She occasionally posts here too. She mentioned yesterday that nothing was said at the Member Update on Tuesday.She did mention that MS was encouraging us to do more external exchanges. Apparently, II members are frustrated because they can't ever exchange into DVC and II wants us to trade more.

A DVC member on the AOL board who is currently vacationing at OKW spoke to the chief finanical guy at OKW ( she described him as the one who writes the checks but doesn't make the decisions) and he says that a slide is only being considered at this time. She also says the water mice are at OKW. She talked to the recreation CM's and the mice are there on a trial basis. They are much slower than the ones at the other resorts. Cost is $22 per half hour. The consensus was that it was better to rent them at the MK resorts. Haven't heard anything on the reservation request rumor.

Just from memory I think DVC said to build a slide at OKW it would be a one time charge of .05c per point and to staff it would be .02c each year. That was about 3 years ago.
