OKW Lovers - sell SSR for OKW

I know some people don't like OKW but others love it. We happen to love it. But we love other resorts too.

We bought into SSR 2 years ago. We have never stayed there yet. We have stayed at OKW, AKV, and this year will be staying at WL too.

Everytime I look at OKW point requirements it just kills me and I think I should be staying there and it seems like I would be getting twice my vacation for the same amount.

For example when I need a 3 bedroom villa for a 50th anniversary - I would save over 175 points....but of course I would need the 11month window.

I am curious if anyone has sold their current unit (ie. my SSR) and then bought OKW resale for this reason.

Looking at the Timeshare Store - it is possible I could sell and buy at an even swap. (not fees etc.. just a quick estimate of value). BUT I do not believe that means the extension for OKW. So I would be losing that.

How much is the extension per point does anyone know. That might NOT make it worth it.

Any thoughts / suggestions???

I usually just read this type of thread and leave it to others to answer, but here goes.

You have a beautiful resort! In fact, I enjoyed SSR more than OKW. There have been only been a few times that I needed more room than my resort can offer (VWL). I have never had any problem booking at OKW for those times. And if we ever needed a grand villa, I would rent the points from an owner before I would sell my home resort. Unless you need a grand villa often, renting or trading would be a good alternative (to me anyway!).

My suggestion? Try your home resort before you think about selling. And yes, it costs less points to stay at OKW, but as frugal as I am, we rarely stay at OKW unless we need the extra room.

Disclaimer for OKW lovers: OKW is a beautiful resort. But living in S FL for 10 years will make you think it is not so beautiful!

I love OKW, but I think you do need to stay at your home resort before you think about selling it.

My suggestion would be to keep SSR and you will find you can usually stay at OKW most times by booking at the 7 month window. If you do anything, I would probably reccomend that you buy an OKW add-on. Buying the add-on from Disney means you will automatically get the extra 15 years, and with banking and borrowing, you can use those points for the 11 month booking advantage. Just a 50 point add-on will give you enough points for a GV for 4 nights every 3rd year. Putting it in those terms might help you make the decision. I would not advise selling SSR and buying a resale unextended OKW contract in your situation.

I would wait until you've stayed at VWL - you might then think about selling SSR and buying there :rotfl:

Great advice --- thanks.

Another question....

I only see needing the Grand Villa in June of 2010....then not again for years to come. What would be the best way to find out if anyone is interested in booking it for me and me transferring points or booking for them.

The Rent, buy trade thread is so strict on what can be added to it.

But that would be the best option I think is someone who would like my points for their points...then no money has to exchange..as that is what I am trying to avoid. (I have already paid if you know what I mean...I didn't want to buy the points).

My next option is getting a 2 bedroom and fitting 10 people in it.

How about a 2 br and a studio?

I don't know how easy it would be to swap points with an OKW owner (is that what you are wanting to do?). When we thought we had needed an OKW GV we were going to try for day by day at 7 months (for this Sept, slower time). But if we wanted that GV for any other time of the year, we would have rented the points from an owner. Trading might not be as easy as you would think it should be (even though I suggested it :confused3 ). But it would probably be a whole lot cheaper to rent points then to sell your contract. Good luck!

PS Will you give your SSR a try?

The problem you will have trying to find an OKW owner to "trade" with is that most might not really be interested in trading to SSR, since it is "right next door". I have to agree that renting might be a better way to go for an occational GV usage.

first you rent your points - then you find a OKW owner interested in renting to you.

you will lost a little money this way - but it will work.
