OKW Looks Just Like ....

When DW and I went to WDW last October (as new SSR Owners) we drove through OKW for the first time - and we liked the architecture, the layout and the overall feel.

Well, we just returned from a cruise that stopped at Key West, FL and when we took the scenic tour of the "Old" town, we went through the "Truman Annex" - a section of an old Naval Base where President Truman used to vacation that is now residential. When we entered the "Annex", DW and I turned to each other and said "This looks like Old Key West at DisneyWorld!" Disney did a great job of duplicating the style and feel of the place; it was quite humorous, though, because we had seen the Disney version before seeing the real thing!

DrT -- You bring out a very good point. People complain that OKW isn't "themed" but, as you saw, it is just as perfectly themed as any other WDW resort. It's just that the theme is a Florida one so it's not as dramatic as an African savanna.

Pam...I agree with you on that. I believe in a recent post that I mentioned that OKW doesn't have as much "theming" as some other resorts. That is actually, as you point out, not true.

My apologies to OKW people....poor choice of words on my part.

I've been to Key West, and I agree with DrTomorrow's observations!

What people mean when they say OKW does not have a lot of theming is because it is very similiar to many other condo developments and timeshare resorts that you can find all over FL. Same color schemes, golf course, landscaping, etc. Of course none of them have Mickey head icon cutouts on the railings.

And the "welcome home" as you drive through the front gates(among other things) sure does give you that Disney feel that you can't get at those other "Florida themed" timeshares. I should know.....I own at one of those......
