OKW Location to Epcot?

Hey All,

I was just playing around with the terraserver and I think I found OKW (i've never been there but I remember the sign)... From the ariel photo it doesn't appear to be that far away from epcot?? Is the photo misleading? For those of you who have stayed there can you explain how close or far it is??

Epcot to OKW -- i believe that is okw on the Upper Right

2miles more or less - depending upon where you are located at OKW.

No - WDW does not want you to walk there. I am pretty sure security will come and pick you up if you try it.

the area inbetween (the forest type) is one of their protected zones.

It's not the distance so much as it is that there really isn't any safe way to walk to EPCOT from OKW. The roads are very busy and were not built with pedestrians in mind.

To answer your question, Yes, that's OKW at the upper right of the photo. You can also make out the golf course as it goes through the OKW property.

The road that appears to go almost directly from the edge of OKW to the edge of Epcot is mainly an employee's road. That's the employee (CM's) parking lot you see on the right (East) edge of Epcot. Most of the visitor parking lot is not visible in the photo.

According to the scale on the photo, the edge of Epcot is just a little over 1/4 mile from the edge of OKW, but Disney does such a good job that no matter where you're at on Disney property, you get the feel that everything else is far away.

By bus or car, following the road (not as the crow flies) route, it's a drive of about a couple of miles. There's no way to walk directly to Epcot. For one thing, there's only two guest entrances, the main entrance at the top (North) edge or the IG entrance on the far left (West) near the canal that connects the two lakes.

You can just make out the edge of the Boardwalk shops, and the overflow parking area for BW at the bottom left edge of the photo. (Clicking the left arrow will show all the Epcot area resorts)

Again looking at the scale, you can see that OKW is physically about as close to Epcot as the Swan/Dolphin resorts are.

Final note, the photo appears to be different sweeps from the satellites. The top 1/3 is much brighter than the rest of the photos. OKW is not just the bright stuff at the upper right, but continues down to the middle part of the picture, and even more off to the right of the picture. If you pan right, and zoom in, you can see the walking path to DD.
