Are the Christmas decorations still up Jan. 3th.?

We've never gone in January, can anyone tell us what it's like?

Jacket weather? Does it get warmer in mid day?

Thanks!

They usually start taking lights and decorations down right after New Year's, but it takes quite a few days, so on Jan 3rd I'm sure there'll still be quite a few decorations still up. However, they may no longer light some things.

On the other hand, they may actually wait until Jan 5th and leave a lot going for the weekend and then actively remove them that following week.

The only thing I've ever seen published is the Osborne display dates. When they start coming down they close the whole area. There's usually signs when you first enter WDW saying what the Osborne display dates will be, or MS can probably tell you when you check in.

Weather in January can and does vary considerably, so no definitive answer can be given. You may find it in the 80's all day long, or you may find it never gets above 40 the whole time you're there. It's just like weather up North. One winter January temperatures are in the high 20's or low 30's, and the next winter you're looking at 10 below zero. Basically the warmer it is up north, the warmer it will be in Florida, and the colder it is up north, the better the chance Florida will be cold (relatively speaking....).

It will definitely be cooler at night so take a jacket with you even if it's warm during the day. Just hope you don't get a lot of rain as that can really make it feel cold.

Have a great trip.

Hi Caskbill,
Thanks for the info, we appreciate it!

How's the new DVC planner coming? Looking forward to the new updated one with the point tracker! :wave2:

Unfortunately the DVCPlanner update with point tracking ability has been extremely slow going. Finding time to work on it has been a real challenge.

So for everyone who's using the program, hope you can be patient a little longer waiting for the upgrade.

Lots of decorations.

Jacket weather. We went the first week in January last year and it was very cool. Not pool weather-but you COULD get lucky!

Caskbill, you do such a great job and you volunteer and share your work - everyone should have 100% patience for people such as you

BTW, all thanks for the question, I have been pondering the weather angle of our Jan trip

thanks

We always go in January, and we have had everything from high 90's to below freezing. I would say by far the norm is highs in the high 60's to low 70's. That does mean that mornings can be a chilly 45-55, but so much better than where we are at home!! We usually bring layers. A sweatshirt, a jacket and even a pair of gloves and scarf or hat for the evenings when it might be chilly watching one of the fireworks shows. I find this time of year to be extrememly pleasant. It rarely rains during January, and if it is a gray damp cool day, there is plenty to do indoors. We usually pack for both hot and cold. Don't need to take a lot of clothes because the laundry in your room is so easy to use, and I don't care if resort guests see me in the same two outfits all vacation!

Just seconding Diane, throw in some real cold weather items -- hats and gloves can be especially valuable if you hit a cold streak. It's possible to get below freezing (especially at night) and then warm up again a day later. Layers is a word to keep in mind.

Around the parks and hotels you'll find many decorations still up. However, at OKW they take down the wreaths on the bridge and the hats on the dolphins before NYE.
