We had some family back out of the BIG family gathering that was going to happen October 2004. So, since the rest of the family has school aged kids we decided to move the vacation up to the last week of August/ first week of September 2004.

I have a nephew with lots of skin allergies. What is the averge temperature for the end of August? How much rain should we expect? We would like to do one or both water parks, do the water parks seem to have a lot of chemicals (heavy chlorine smell)? What are the crowds like compared to late October during the Food & Wine?

We hope August is a good time to go because I would like to avoid pulling my daughter out of school again next year.

Any thoughts or past expereinces would be appreciated.

The weather in August is still summer time in Florida, HOT and HUMID. Unless a tropical storm shows up, expect the normal 30-45 minute 4PM rain event daily. Sometimes it has thunder and lighting but not always. The crowds are lighter than the rest of summer, except being Labor day weekend, it will be packed. I don't know about how it compares to the F&W crowds. I would think it would have more people in August.
Never noticed any chlorine smell at the water parks. They do get crowded, especially on the weekends. Also the parks start closing earlier in late August, compared to summer, but should be open longer that October if that is when you usually go.

Anytime at WDW is better than being at work. Have a great trip.

My sister and I (plus two darling nieces) were at OKW this past August around the time you are asking about. It was incredibly hot and humid. When we looked at the pics of the girls when we arrived home, we were shocked they were so dark. There were a couple of evenings when we were rained out and decided not to venture out - lightening and all was really loud and was striking pretty close. I don't know if I would ever go during August again. The parks were pretty crowded too, which surprised me. I thought more kiddos would be back in school. But using fast pass, touring early and spending some time at one of OKW's quiet pools made all the difference.

We had a trip in September (labor day weekend) a couple of years ago and the parks were crowded and the heat and humidity were pretty bad too. If I had a choice between not going to Disney at all and going in August, I would definitely suck it up and go in August but if there was any other timeframe I could pick from, I probably wouldn't go in the August or early September time period again. But some people don't seem to mind. I'm glad we tried it a couple of times but I'm not in a hurry to travel to Florida in the summer again. We're trying early June this year. Hoping for better temps and lower crowds.

On the upside most southern school are back in session by the last week in August. Crowds will be lighter, but hours are shorter. We were at WDW in August about 5 years ago, typical Fl heat and humidity
