OKW help and suggestions

After being away from Disney for 6 years we are headed back using our dvc points at OKW. It has been a long time since I stayed there but I recall how serene it is. I also recall a little challenge here and there with the transit system but I had a car so I used it to go to hospitality house for food instead of using the bus for that task. All that said, no car this time. I'm looking for helpful hints and suggestions for best room location, ease of transportation from check in to room (if it's far from check in), and any other Tips like bus stops that receive more service than others.

Well welcome back. It's still a serene place to stay and still my favorite resort.We just got back and stayed on Turtle pond rd.Probably about a half mile walk to HH and the main pool,but a very comfortable ride.You can take a boat to DTD,and be there in 15 minutes.Unless you have physical disabilities there are many bus stops to the parks as well as smaller pools.

We just returned from a 3 generation trip to OKW, and we couldn't have been more pleased with where we were, building 28. What's funny is that it wasn't at all what we asked for. We'd asked for Miller's Road, but it was like some CM looked at it and the family make-up and said "You don't want to stay there for this trip, I'll put you someplace much better." We were near the first bus stop, which meant that in the morning, when the bus ride was longer (after our stop, the bus had several other stops), we always got a seat. Coming back, when we might not get a seat if the bus was full, we were the first off. And it was a short walk to the HH for the pool and QS. Miller's Road has better golf views, and if you have your own car (as we usually do) it's great! But for this trip, we loved our location. The trouble with HH as we saw one day is that it's the last bus stop, so the bus may be already too full for passengers. One morning, when we stopped there to let a few passengers off for breakfast, the bus driver informed us that he'd turned off the lighted banner saying where the bus was going and we were NOT to say anything to the people waiting for a bus to the parks. As soon as the few passengers got off the bus, he closed the door and off we went.

The bus service at OKW is a toss-up. The stops are Peninsula Rd, Turtle Pond, South Point, Millers Rd and Hospitality and all busses stop at all stops...generally. You will soon figure out that if you are staying near Hospitality at say bldg 14, then when you return from the parks, you bail out at Peninsula rather than waiting for the bus to make it's rounds and get back to Hospitality. The same works in reverse...walk over to Peninsula and get on the bus to a park rather than waiting for the bus to make it's way around to Hospitality on those busy mornings or you may find a full bus.

I have found the bus service at OKW to be pretty good and on time. We have never had to wait more than maybe 10-15 minutes for a bus to any of the parks, but we are traveling without young kids and never in a hurry.

Hospitality is a separate booking category as the bldgs near the Hospitality House are preferable because they are near all of the activities including the restaurant, check in/out and the pool, but we have a great stay down near South Point.

I'm not sure what building we were in when we stayed before. I remember there was water and golf so I'm thinking We were on turtle pond road. Sat one morning and watched 2 full buses pass by at HH. But again, loved the place, really. And the view looking back from the boat was really nice too

We always ask for a room with quick walking distance to the HH. Never once in 15 years have we gotten on a full bus. Even when we went during Easter they were not full on the way to a park. I can not even remember having to stand going to a park. Leaving the park is a different story though.

Not saying others may have had a different experience, it is not something that happens all the time.
