After a 2 year abscence from WDW we are planning a small reunion the first week of August 2004. Would be 4 adults and 6 children-adding a niece and nephew. Both parties own 250 points each (150 VWL and 100 BCV, with 2003 banked its 500 each). We have been to OKW and it was great, but to be honest we just want to get the extra room of a GV and always wanted to try a GV. Otherwise a 2BR and a studio would be at the home resorts. We are planning Sun to Fri and driving home over the weekend.
Our question is should we try some sort of trade for OKW points and reserve a 11 months, or risk it at 7 months knowing a 2BR and studio would work at VWL and also be great? It looks like 250 points for OKW GV or 274 for 2BR and studio so not a points issue. Any suggestions? (no we cant add on OKW yet)

I think you will be fine - either trading for OKW points or waiting - August is not a popular time - however call MS today and see what the availability is for your week in August this year for the GV - if they have several still left - then I would wait - if they say all are gone - then I would trade with a OKW member.

kept in mind that this year won't necessary say what next year will be - but in my opinion it is a pretty good judge.

I can't answer spefically about GV's but I was on the phone yesterday with MS to add a few studio days in August. I had my choice of all 4 resorts (both BW views). She said the school's in the south are already back and that makes room availability easier.

Just an extra thought.

The only thing with calling today is you are roughly 2 months out not 7. So while it is true every year will be different I don't think having nothing available 2 months out is a good comparison.

LOUBON, Thanks for the thread-how similar is that. I think we will reserve at VWL 2BR and studio (I hope I can get these close together) and check daily at 7 months for a GV. If I wanted to check on a trade-do I just put that on the Rent/trade board? Anyway thanks for the replies.

I think you would just put it on the rent/trade board.

Let me know if that works out I might need the info!

Unless things have drastically changed , I was under the impression you pretty much always have to book the GV 11 Months out.
I stayed in a GV the last week o f August 2001 called everyday at 11 months and had to be waitlisted one day beacuse I did not get through until 11am that day. ( it came through a couple months later no problem). By the way it is awesome you may never want to stay any other way.
I might be abel to work out a trade with you if intereseted.
We are looking to stay at BCV or VWL in march/april of 2004.
You do not allow Email so I PM'd you (sorry doc).
