Hi All.

Hopefully our experiences will put a few minds at ease.

We arrived very late last night (10:30pm) and for all intents and purposes our reservation was handled just like the prior seven years of DVC visits.

We requested a non-smoking, upper floor two bedroom near a pool. I also mentioned we really liked last years room location (room 2024). I reserved 11 months ahead to the day of our checkout.

When we arrived, we not only got our requests, we got the same room as last year!!! This would lead me to believe that some sort of reservation priority is still in place.

To top it all off, our unit is one of the recently renovated ones and it is BEAUTIFUL!!! The new appliances are top shelf and a great improvement over the prior GE offerings that were not on the higher end of the GE choices.

That's great news!! I book at 11 month window to get my choice of buildings.........hope the trial period is now over and things are back to normal....

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!!

Great to hear! I emailed MS after the first round of "rumors" here and was told the policy had not changed. I think someone at the front desk is interpreting it wrong.

I think you are correct, since I also got what I wanted and after speaking with someone at DVC management, who stated that this was not policy, I was convinced that someone was not relating things properly.

That is great news! I am glad to hear that they are replacing the appliances as well. Last July when we were there the dishwasher was literally falling apart. I had a feeling they were due for replacement. This is good news.

Glad to hear the news!!!!!

Thanks BigTigger...

Your report confirms what we were told last week by one of the front desk managers. IMO, it's the farest way to handle member requests.

That is great news! I knew this "trial period" couldn't last very long as I'm sure people have complained and complained! And it seems it has lasted just that, around 2 - 3 weeks (give or take).

PS -- I dont appreciate basically being called a liar, as there have been many others who have had the same experiences, even at Beach Club with the "trial" way of room assignments. These were NOT rumors, it was factual. In your situation Gail, you requested a "smoking" room and at that time of year, given the resort wasn't at full capacity, I don't think that would have been too hard of a request to meet. Honestly, I don't think as a whole there are too many people requesting "smoking" rooms. Our requests were obviously having a very hard chance at being filled since our main request were to be in buildings 62, 63 or 64 and were were told nothing was available! This mind you that everyone checking in since 6:30 am would more than likely choose those rooms if available, which obviously was the case as our ressie was made WELL in advance and September is OBVIOUSLY a low month.

In my situation, I spoke with OKW's manager and was told exactly as posted: Trial situation - first come/first serve - and they weren't sure if it would last - and apparently it's over! THANK GOODNESS!!!!

Did I read something wrong here? I did not see the word "Liar" anywhere! CALM DOWN!!!

I hope no one takes offense, but of ALL the DIS boards, the DVC board seems to get the most defensive. Sometimes I think everyone just needs to take a DEEP breath and step away from the PC!

One thing I have learned about message boards is that things can easily be read in a completly different manner than the writer meant. A large part of the communciation process is missing. The non-verbal is not present so.....

I was convinced that someone was not relating things properly.

No where in this did I mention a name or call anyone a liar, outright or basically. I said there was misinformation. I spoke with someone very high up at DVC and they said it was not a plan that was implimented at anytime. It was not a trial. This person had NO knowledge of the plan. I was told it was members first, people on rented points next and then ressies from CRO next.

There are approx. 5 smoking buildings at OKW, and just as an FYI, they were all full at that time. At the time I was there the resort was at 85% capacity.

QUOTE: I was convinced that someone was not relating things properly. END QUOTE

If this isn't to be read that exactly everything I had stated was "basically" not true, which to my knowledge would mean a "lie", then I guess I'm extremely way off base.

I spoke with OKW's resort manager - the head honco - he told me everything I have posted. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with whether there was "rented points" or a regular members reservation - I know that because I specifically asked him, because that was our exact situation and he again told me - ROOMS WERE ASSIGNED ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, and YES this was a NEW way of doing things on a TRIAL BASIS.

There are obviously two conflicting stories here, and we can agree to disagree without blatantly saying that someone is "not relating things properly" which I interpret as "basically" calling me a liar. Forgive me for interpreting things the way this particular poster intends them to be interpreted.

I was told (and I believe I checked in AFTER you) that the resort was at 65% capacity (which would make sense, it was September) so would that mean someone is not relating things properly??

And for the record, there have been many other posters who these exact instances have also occurred, look at the previous posts and threads - so it's not like only one particular party is posting that they've been affected by the "first come first serve" TRIAL policy and we are all just "making this up". But apparently it's over and done with and that is nothing but a VERY GOOD THING!!! :D

I was convinced that someone was not relating things properly.

I will rephrase:
I was convinced that someone was not relating things properly.
to Denise.

To set the facts straight, I do NOT call people liars, I do NOT attack people, I do tell it like I see it. If this was intended for you rather than a general statement (like the one I made) I would have included you in the sentence. IE: Denise did not relate the situation properly. Obviously, Denise, since you think it is all about you, I should have said, Denise, I think you have been misinformed and information was not properly related to you.
I hope this clears this up for you. If you need further clarification, please, do, let me know.

Wow. With everything that is going on in the world(not just WDW), I can't believe how upset some people seem to get about DVC issues. Remember, this is supposed to be fun!

You know, you are absolutely correct. Thank you for the reminder. :)

Gail, I will repeat again, I was *not* misinformed, I had a 100% legitimate personal experience from where I spoke personally to the resort manager, and my experience came after other's experiences who were 100% exacatly as my experience.

None of us were misinformed, myself included. Please do not continue to state that I or anyone else was misinformed either directly or indirectly. Thanks!

Ladies and Gentlemen.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind EVERYONE that personal attacks are not allowed on the DIS.

That said I would also like to remind EVERYONE that it can be difficult to determine exactly what a persons thoughts are when we type. The lack of facial expressions and general body languarge precludes us the ability to determine actual intent. Please take a moment to reread your post before you hit the submit button.

This He said/She said stuff stops NOW.

Any further discussion on this matter in this thread (or other threads)will be deleted without explanation to the poster.

If you have a problem with someone else - TAKE IT OUTSIDE

Amen, Robin! I was beginning to think I'd time travelled back to the 4th grade! :p
