We just got back and everything was wonderful EXCEPT!

We were in a 2 bedroom at OKW in building 54, # 5424. Every morning around 6am someone was out on the green near our unit doing something to the greens with a VERY NOISY machine. Woke me up early every morning. Isn't one of the nice things about vacation is being able to sleep late?

I plan on writing a letter of complaint to OKW.

Beth

Sorry you had to wake up early, that kind of sucks. But how is this a problem for OKW?? They don't have anything to do with the golf course??

Hi Cobbler: Lake Buena Vista Golf Course starts out at SSR and returns there, but it does go thoughout OKW which I learned the first time I played there. It is also a Disney
Golf Course, of course! :rotfl:

This is exactly what happens on a golf course nearly every morning - depending on if they are cutting greens, fairways or rough or blowing the grass clippings.

Too bad that the noise woke you, but that is what do you expect from a golf course. In the, 13 years or so that OKW has been open, they haven't stopped doing it yet!

I was up at 6:30 every am on my deck on vacation, coffee in hand, relaxing while watching them prepare the golf course for the day! I LOVED it!

Thats exactly what my husband loved about OKW!!! he would get up, make his coffee, and sit on the deck and watch the course!! we were in turtle pond and had a great view of the course. It never woke me up, plus we were on vacation, so we wanted to be up early and enjoy!

That's so funny! DH loves to do that too. And what I find strange is that although he's usually a very light sleeper, if he wants to sleep late, the golf course cutter never bothers him. Me, who sleeps like a log-it woke me up a couple times.
Good luck with your complaint, but I'd be surprised if you get anywhere.

Did you complain while you were at OKW? If not, why not? If not, why complain out here?

They have to get the course ready before the first tee times. So they usually start early on mowing and other maintenance on the course. Most private golf courses are closed one day a week, so I think those courses get their maintenance done on those days. No days off at LBV Golf Course.

Now that you know the golf course maintenance noise bothers you, be sure to ask for a NON-GOLF COURSE view next time (or sleep with ear plugs). I don't love hearing the mowers early in the a.m. either but I know that that is the nature of "living" on a golf course. I certainly prefer that noise to the constant squeel of the bus brakes (which you get at certain points of the resort if you are near a bus turn around). Room requests are a little dicey but I have requested mid-50's buildings at OKW for my next stay because I love that location! To each his own...there are trade-offs involved with just about any location at any resort.

LOL! I do the same thing and love it! It's my "quiet time" before everyone else gets up for the day. I usually get some great sun rise pictures then too. My favorite buildings for watching golf course evolutions are those along the Miller's Road area.

Thanks Clarabelle Cow! My husband is a golfer and we are going in September and he said he would prefer a golf course view. We were there last year with friends who smoke so we were in Bldg. 12 with a nice golf course view - but I do not want to be in a smoking building again this year. I would like to check out the Turtle Pond area!

Oh... wait, you are serious aren't you.

Isn't that like staying at Boardwalk/Beach Club and having the fireworks from Epcot wake you... or maybe those cursed peacocks at Fort Wilderness. Now THOSE things are NOISY. Either way, it's pretty much out of the resort's control.

The LBV course has it's maintenance to do every day. Yes, the equipment can be noisy but there isn't really anything the resort can do about it. As a golfer, I too enjoy watching the morning festivities as they manicure the greens.

I am sorry the op had problems sleeping due to noise on the golf course. However, as previously posted OKW does not own or maintain the golf course, so I suspect OKW has little impact on how the course is taken care of.
