Just wondering if anyone has stayed in building 55 at OKW. It looks totally remote, yet has a quiet pool literally right next to it, and it sits right on the cannal. I was originally thinking it might be nice to be near the hospitality house, but the trip is turning into more parks than I thought and I'm thinking it might be nice to be away from everything when we finally do get some down time. Any thoughts on this building? Thanks.

It is a great location. The walkway to DD begins right behind the building too.

It's only a short walk to the South Point bus stop and you could even walk to HH in about 10 minutes - it's not really as far as it feels.

Enjoy!

We stayed at OKW last year in building 53. When I first saw the location on the map I really thought I wouldn't like being so far away from the main building. But we loved it! It was super quiet, we were right next to the bus stop, and the quiet pool was very close and never busy. I think you'd love it!

Thanks to both of you for your quick replies. I'm thinking that area sounds really good. I'm checking in on Feb. 14th, is it too late to change my requests? Also, it may seem like people may not request that area as much, would I be more likely to get my requests granted if that is the case? It's our first trip to OKW, so I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks for all of your help.

Had a dedicated two BR in building 55 last Sept and it was by far my favorite room to date. We were in the center of the building with a fantastic view of the canal. It is also the building listed on my deed so I really felt like I had come home. We have also had great rooms in bldg 56. That whole area is great. On one trip I requested that area but was told they had pretty much filled it with honeymooners that week.

We had two studios in 55 last June. We really liked this building. It is a great location, convenient to the bus stop, pool and laundry (for studios) and while it can be a hike to HH, just take yor time and enjoy the stroll...it really isn't all that bad.

Another "yes" vote for bldg 55. We had a one bedroom, 5521 last Feb. We really enjoyed it. One day while DH was playing golf, I walked thru SSR to DTD. It was a hike, but I took my time and enjoyed the scenary. Rode the boat back to OKW :lmao: :lmao:

It was very quite. Did not use the pool.

I would take that location on another trip if it was offered to me.

Hope you enjoy your trip.

We were in that building last summer. It's a good location near a bus stop, quiet pool, and the walkway to Downtown Disney. The canal is also a very nice view. The only thing we didn't like was the fact that our 1BR unit was on the end nearest the pool, practically on top of the spa. Almost every night, there would be very loud people in the spa around 11pm-1am. They sounded as if they were having a party on our balcony, it was that loud. We were there 14 nights, and it was almost a nightly occurence, with various people throughout the entire time. Ask for a unit at the opposite end of the building.

Great advice! We had that 1 bdrm in August, very difficult to sleep! People were out there one night as late as 4:00 am. One night someone had there kids out there at 2:30 am. Made me wonder if they even had a room. Called security one night and people were gone in under 10 minutes. We were there 7 nights and someone was out there every night.

Building 55 is one of our very favorites! LOVE the view and love the location. We too had the unit right above the hot tub in December, but the spa was broken off and on during our trip, so it wasn't a problem. That unit is also quite hemmed in with vegetation on the studio and living room side of the unit. In my opinion, the units on the far end of building 55 have the best view of any DVC room!

We have only stayed at OKW once and it was in Bldg. 55. It happened to turn out great for because of the quiet pool. We were there in 9/2004 when the main pool was closed to add the slide...otherwise, though, we would have been upset. If you have young children (who cannot do the long walk) and/or you do not have a car, you might have a problem....everything else is far away. As others have said, it is very peaceful and beautiful.

We did use the main pool once and just took the bus up to the hospitality house. It was very quick and easy. Enjoy!

But there is no need to walk to HH. ALL buses stop at HH before leaving the resort, so just hop on the first one that arrives and get off at HH.

Thanks for posting this, Diane! Not sure if this is new or has always been. As I said, we only stayed the one time more than 2 years ago. And when DH hopped on the bus to head to HH, he ended up in DTD first! Now, it could have been him (I admint) but all this time I assumed it was the bus schedule! :rotfl2:

Thanks to everyone who gave their input. I think I'm going to change my requests so hopefully I'll end up somewhere in that general area. Thanks again, and if there is still more info, I'd love to hear it.

love building 55!!! I also like building 18.

was in building 45 - which don't get. especially with kids - those buses and golf carts -(the regular cars weren't so bad) - trying to go fast up that little hill to a STOP sign.... so the noise was pretty constant from 6:30 am to 3:00 am.

so when I moved to building 55 - was in heaven.:goodvibes :yay: it is that different!

even with people under me who were smoking.

The buses have always run like that.
