We need some advise please!! We are staying at OKW for 9 night in a 2 bedroom unit. We are thinking about moving to AKL for two nights. None of us has stayed at AKL. Is it worth it? Should we move or stay put? It would be for a savannah view. We have 4children 1 toddler in the group. Tell me what you think.

AKL is a hit or miss resort. Some really like it and others (like me) think it's just OK. Still, I like to experience the other rosorts and would recommend you try it if you haven't already. It would be a particularly good time to do it with cash and for a weekend associated with your trip. I'd only do so in your situation for a DELUXE savannah view and I personally wouldn't use the points, especially for the weekend.

When I do the 2 days extra to check out a rosort, I like to do it at the end of my stay. This gives me more time to enjoy the particular resort instead of running to parks and the like. Others like to go at the beginning so they can be more relaxed at the end, many tend to eat out more realy and less late and they have access to the laundry to get things wahed up.

To be honest even with the niceness of AKL with as many children you have got in your group you will sorely miss the 2 bdroom accomadation especially the kitchen. I love AKL and the savanna views are wonderful so whatever you decide there will always be some major advantages.

With 4 kids I would stay put. Packing up will take a big chunk out of one of your days and it's just not worth it in my opinion. We have 5 kids and we always stay in one spot. It takes us several hours to pack and is moderately stressful -- trying to keep them focused and checking and double checking.

Maybe you could leave the kids and spend a night or two there.

I love the AKL and I have 4 kids and we have done the moving thing but only from AKL at the beginning of the trip.....we did move in the middle to the Dolphin but it was into a huge 2 bdrm suite there....

If you really want to try then I would...

Thanks for the info so far. We are planning for two nights in the beginning or the end. We are paying cash and it will not fall on the weekend. So the part of saving money/points is not going to happen.

Dean: What about the del. savannah is there a big difference?

I LOVE AKL!!! We've stayed there twice. it is beautiful and my kids loved it there. If they built a DVC there I would be in paradise!

Basically that my experience with the standard savannah view was that it was medicocre. I'm sure others here or on the resorts board can direct you as to your best choices. We used a code and it was a very good price. It was actually the cheapest rate I'd see at the time other than those upgraded from the moderates when FQ closed. It seems like it was either $109 or $119 for thanksgiving a couple of years ago. Good luck.

We used extra points for a long weekend AKL concierge(lots of extra points), it was fantastic and we will do it again, probably again and again.

I agree that you will sorely miss the two bedroom. We would only stay concierge there, or at any other resort...its the only thing that can make up for not having the full kitchen.

I still think that for a one time deal, to let the kids experience it and that the cost of concierge may be prohibitive, two rooms even more prohibitive, I would still do it. You can deal with it for two nights....Icome to think of it, you are going to get two rooms at AKL for your family, right? That won't be bad at all, concierge would atill be better, but two savanah view rooms would certainly be good.

We only have one kid.

It really will be a special experience for all. Make sure you eat at both the restatuants, maybe save Jiko for the adults.

Have done it twice and are booked for concierge level in August. We think it is the best resort on property (well maybe tied with OKW!!). If you go, use the extra points for at least the savannah view or concierge if you want to do the sunrise or sunset safaris.

The difference between standard or deluxe is size of room and floor. Deluxe are upper floors and are 40 suare feet larger. For your size group you probably refer the deluxe.

We have stayed on DVC special offer, points and AP rate. The DVC special offer was the cheapest. Points and AP rate when we checked last worked out to about the same.

Richyams - Thank you for the info. We are getting two rooms. I have two children and my brother has three. Not all mine..

JimC - Thank you for the web site it was GREAT!!

If I were going to do it, I'd do it at the beginning of my trip, and spend the rest of the trip at OKW. You definitely want a savnaah view, as it is interesting to watch the animals from your balcony.

It's a nice resort, a deluxe, so comaprable in services/amenities to BC/YC/BW etc. I am not a huge fan of African themeing, so it didn't do much for me.
