Got back last Friday from a 5 night stay at OKW room 4615. This place was perfect for my family. WIth a 5 month old and a 22 Month old, the laid back style was perfect.
Sunday
Flew from Buffalo to Charlotte. Got to Charlotte at 12:30 with flight to Orlando at 1:40. Plane we were supposed to fly from Charlotte to Orlando was coming from Philadelphia. It had to return to Philadelphia and was pulled from service. We had to wait for another 767 to come from Meunich, GE to Philly then Philly to Charlotte. You ever try to entertain a 5 month old and 22 month old for a 7 hour layover. Well at least we got 40 dollars worth of dinner (2 pizzas, 2 drinks, 3 hagens das at CA Pizza Kitchen) from USAir. Finally at 8:40 us and 200 other weary Orlando bound travellers took off. We got in to OKW about 11 and were in bed by midnight.
Monday morning we tried to sleep in. Once everyone was up, we took our Rental car out to the WalMart Supercenter on 192 (that I learned about on this very Board - Thanks!) to stock up on the essentials... Lettuce, Hot Dogs, Yogurt, baby carrier, umbrella stroller.... etc etc etc...
After returning the Car (only rented it for 1 day) we travelled by Trumbo Ferry to Downtown Disney. We stopped off at the Mr Potato Station. Here you can buy for $10 (plus tax) a box that you can stuff with Mr. Potato Head pieces.
We rode a Disney bus back to OKW. The driver was definitely our favorite. Lots of jokes and the threat of singing Ann Murray songs in the voice of Wayne Newton.
Tuesday morning we went to Animal Kingdom and did the Kilamonjaro Safari, the walking trail next to Kilamonjaro, and the Festival of the Lion King. Unfortunately our 22 month old was napping by then. There's just something fun about being a warthog!
This evening we dined at the Rainforest Cafe (lots of fun, but pricey)
Wednesday we went to Magic Kingdom for a couple of hours, then back home for naps. Later in the evening we headed out to Epcot to see the parade (which was cancelled because of wind) and Illuminations (which was wonderful).
Thursday we Resort Hopping. First we took a bus to Magic Kingdom. From there we took the ferry out to Ft. Wilderness. We enjoyed the petting zoo and stable. We next to the ferry to Wilderness Lodge. We to a break there for a while. From there we returned on the Ferry back to MK and back to our room for... naps...
Thursday evening we took a bus to MGM, walked out to the Boardwalk (our Home DVC resort) and had some fun there.
Friday Morning we packed and left our home away from home. The flights back were much better (no 7 hour layover
)
Overall, I'd say the my impression of OKW is that it's a GREAT place to be if you want to be farther away from the hustle and bustle. I haven't stayed at Boardwalk yet, but it seems that it is in the middle of everything and there more is constant motion.
