Hi All,

We will be staying at Old Key West soon in a 2 BR Villa. Part of our group will be disabled and will be utilizing scooters. As such, our hope is to get a first floor room as close to main the lobby area as possible.

Can anyone suggest, in order of priority, the best buildings to go after? If you have any specific room #s, that would be great too.

Thanks for the info!

Buildings 11 to 14 and 23 to 26 are in the near Hospitality House category (has to be booked). 62, 63, 64 are the only elevator buildings. I wouldn’t try for specific room numbers. I would request first floor or elevator building for medical reasons. Unless you are using the main pool, I wouldn’t worry about near lobby. If you are using busses, I would request near bus stop, the bus stop at the HH is the last stop, which could be an issue with scooters (already scooters on board).

Thank you for the info! The hospitality house is the main lobby area, correct? So the bus stop there is the last one? Which one is the first?

We were thinking close to the lobby for bus, pool and food access, originally.

Is there a good option that is close to the first Bus stop and a quick service food option? Pool is nice, but wouldn't be an every day thing.

Thanks!!!

Bus Route: Penninsular, South Point, Turtle Pond, Miller Road, Hospitality House (lobby). Since you must have first floor or elevator building, I would concentrate on that. Many of the 2 bedrooms are 2nd or 3rd floor.

If your group has more than two scooters, you'll be on two different buses in most cases. And if you get on a bus at the Hospitality House, you'll probably be on two buses since any other scooters will load at the other bus stops before you get on. You best bet for getting two scooters on one bus is the Peninsular Road bus stop which is the first stop. If you didn't book Hospitality House Area (only available for DVC points), you'd probably do better having Bldg 27 first floor. There are three dedicated two bedroom villas on the first floor and two lockoff two bedroom villas on the first floor. I don't know if they are HCA or not or if you need a real HCA villa.

There are lots of two bedroom villas on the first floor of OKW. Some may be dedicated and some may be lockoffs.

Unfortunately, DVC MS insisted to me that using a scooter, or not being able to negotiate stairs was NOT a medical reason for a first floor room. Unless you need a HA villa, asking for first floor is considered a request. I was not happy when they told me this! However, every time I've requested first floor, I've gotten it.
If you can't get HH category, buildings 27 and 28 are convenient, and right near the first bus stop.

I'd say that CM doesn't know that OKW doesn't have elevators in most building. Just request first floor for medical needs and leave it at that.
