okw $169 a night 4/04- 7/04 AP holders are getting emails for the rate

The rack rate is $284 so the member discount would be $213.

(This brings up another question, do we pay tax when we get a member discount?)

The AP rate is $169 plus tax so it's roughly $189 per night.

Are there AP offers for any of the other DVC resorts?

I think that sometimes people have gotten MS to match the lowest discounted rate if there is availability.

Yes, you pay tax on what ever the rate is, thru ms
and you really can count on a discount thru ms, out of 5 times i have asked about cash discounts i was offer only twice for the cash discount

i dont want to be flamed. but do you think it is fair that we cant even get a better rate first before it is offered to another group discount, i know, i know all about the 4% dvd

and im sure it all boils down to , if ms gave us great rates then we wouldnt buy more points,

but come on once in awhile throw us a bone:confused:

I was thinking about the member discount - and it seems to me that - if there is availability - we should always be given the member discount - since the lack of housekeeping would be close to equivalent...at least on studios....If we are charged around $30 for an extra cleaning - and we don't get daily housekeeping with ms cash discounts like "rack rate" paying customers are, we should always, at least, be given that much of a discount imho....

I just called on AP rates. I need 3 more nights on our trip and I'm out of points. Guess it's time for an add-on!

Anyway I was quoted $199 VWL studio, $310 VWL 1-Bd. OKW had studios and 1-Bd available, I didn't ask the price. No other DVC resorts had any AP rates for 6/5-6/8.

I got an Email today about the OKW rate, geared to annual passholders (I am one) but I thought "Nope, I've got points." But that is a great rate.

We have APs, are registered at Disney Online and got no e-mail. Wonder why?

I got the AP e-mail. I'm going to call tomorrow about an OKW 1 bedroom, I'm thinking of adding a Friday night to my May trip.

Last year I tried to get MS to match the AP rate but they wouldn't do it. They do apply tax to the member rate. I paid $288 plus tax, it was around $321.

Now I'm torn. We're in a studio Friday nite at OKW (24 points if I remember right). Should we stay with the points or take the $169 rate (I have an AP). Also, since we originally had to borrow the 24 points, what would happen to them? Would they go back to our next year's allotment or go into some kind of "holding account" (which I'm not familiar with)?

$169 + 11.5% tax would be the comparison for the Friday night if the rate is even available - so $188.44 compared to 24 pts or $7.85 a point

$7.85 a point is around the upper end of estimates of what a point costs a DVC owner

If you did this would you not have separate ressies that you would have to get linked as a request to avoid moving?

If you borrowed the points, they have to be used in the use year they are borrrowed into and cannot be restored to the original use year. If the stay is cancelled less than 31 (or is it 30?) days then the points go into holding

Holding points have to be used in the current use year and for bookings within 60 days of arrival date

thanks

Once points are borrowed, they can't go back into the original Use Year. They will have to be used by the end of your current Use Year. (If you have remaining current year points and are within banking deadlines, you could bank those forward).

You counter says 74 days -- if that's the trip you are thinking about, there will be no holding account penalty. That doesn't happen until you are 30 days from arrival.

The other question is whether this rate is available for the days you will be there. It mentions "limited availability".

You can always call MS and ask them to reallocate your points, so that you use the borrowed points, and then they can put your current use year points back into your account. That way you can then bank them back into next use year.

The Passholder rates are $59 for Value, $74 for Moderate, and $124 for Delux resorts. They had all kinds of rooms for my dates, July 1, 2, 3. I am cancelling those weekend rates for that! I save 150 points, and I am staying at AKL for $145 for a pool room(total $161.68). There were no rooms at Contemporary, but OKW, BW, BC, YC, Poly, WL, and AKL were all available. I didn't ask about the cheaper rooms.

The good thing about OKW is that for $169 you get daily maid service, if you like maid service. It's a good deal for Passholders. I like to figure out my savings using the $10 per point rate--you could even rent your points to cover the cost of your room, if you needed to!:p

The AP rate for a 1 bedroom is $270 + tax ($301.05). Rack is $385, so the member rate would be $288.75 + tax. It would be 48 points for a Friday night. I booked the AP rate, which would be the equivalent of $6.27 per point.

CRO really keeps tabs on you! The cm knew I stayed at OKW last May and BWV last Dec!

No flames - just want to make sure you understand why the discounts operate the way they do.

Nearly all of the rooms that are rented for cash by CRO are due to members using their points for something besides staying at a DVC resort. Except for exchanges through II, DVC has to rent DVC resort rooms to pay for that option. Without this process, there would not be nearly so many roomns available for cash AND members wouyld not be able to use there points to do things like cruise or stay at one of the non-DVC WDW resort hotels.

Sometimes CRO needs to discount in order to make sure the rooms get rented. IMHO, this kind of discounting is one of the reasons it costs so many points for the non-DVC options. I'm hoping that in the future, we'll see a decrease in points for those options becasue CRO/WDWTC is able to rent more rooms at rack rate.

In contrast, the member discount is available whenever MS thinks all of the rooms in the MEMBER INVENTORY will not be reserved for points. I suppose they have history and statistical formulas to figure that out. It would upset me if I couldn't book a room for points and found out MS had been giving member discounts for the days I wanted. FWIW, I don't think that happens very often (if ever) and is likley the reason that member discounts are not offered all that often.

Anyway, I do think it is fair that we cant even get a better rate first before it is offered to another group. I think it is in the memers best interests that DVC recover the cost of non-DVC options asap. Not sure how DVC members could have first crack at those rooms without a lot of extra tracking & cost.

Keep in mind that anyone, including DVC members, can rent for cash from CRO. Many members do just that if the discounts are better. I know that you might have to change rooms when you do that, but IMHO, that is the trade off for having options besides the DVC resorts.

Best wishes -

I've always wondered....if you get the AP rates reserved for you, do you actually have to show the AP at the time of check-in?

I've got a friend that got the AP rates on a Wilderness Lodge stay this week, but she doesn't actually have an AP. Can she do this?

it is a hit or miss, it depends on the cm, they are suppose to ask to see and i have heard they are cracking down on the cm 's to ask for them, if your friend does not have an AP and the cm asks to see it, she will be charged rack rate until she can show them her AP.
