Anyone from OKC? We are considering driving down for New Year's Eve weekend and taking in a Thunder game. Curious how crowded bricktown will be for that weekend and if things are family friendly down there? We would stay downtown so parking/driving wouldn't be an issue that evening.

Any suggestions on things to do or places to eat?

Thanks!!

From Tulsa and while I have never been to a thunder game, my 75 year old parents have. Pretty sure it's a good area downtown and family friendly. Lots of restaurants and I think they ate at Toby Keith's place? I doubt it will be any more crowded than normal other than late on NYE. They have a decent zoo there and there's also the Murah building Memorial. And if you like softball there's the softball hall of fame. :) we enjoy eating at Hideaway Pizza while in OK.

Our son goes to college in OKC and I second Hideaway Pizza. It's delicious!
I can't really remember Bricktown restaurants, but there are plenty to choose from.
The bomb site is worth seeing.

I’m from OKC. In downtown OKC, there is an event called Opening Night on New Years Eve. You need a wristband to enter the events. If you google Opening Night OKC, you will probably find a lot of info on it. It’s family friendly. Downtown will be somewhat crowded, but if you aren’t needing to find parking, you will be fine.
OKC is has a lot of fun local restaurants that are amazing. If you are staying downtown, I would recommend you Uber around the downtown area because it’s the easiest way to get around.
My kids also enjoy the Plaza district with Empire Pizza Roxy’s Ice Cream and Pie Junky. Not in Downtown, but my kids love Pops Nichols Hills because it looks like an old fashioned diner.
For kids 10 and under, the childrens museum is awesome. OKC Zoo is really nice. There is a large outlet mall fairly close to downtown.

I was trying to think of field trips when I was a kid and we did the National cowboy Hall of Fame and Omni-Plex?? (Science center). Both indoor activities for a cold time of year.

Also from Tulsa, but the zoo and the science museum are always a hit. Hideaway has some pretty good pizza. The Bricktown area is pretty cool in general. We also liked the Myraid Gardens.

While not downtown, the Science Museum and zoo are fun. If you're staying downtown, there's an outdoor ice skating rink near the Myriad Gardens and/or snow tubing at Bricktown ballpark that might still be still open then. Those are both fun! As for restaurants, Hideaway Pizza is great and Ted's Cafe Escondido is yummy. (Ted's is not right in downtown, however...they have a few different locations not too far from downtown). If you do a google search for "downtown in December" for Oklahoma City, there's a website with some of the different events going on during that time of year. Have fun!

Thanks so much for all the ideas!! Tickets are bought and the hotel is booked so now just to find some fun stuff to do.
