Oklahoma City question

I know that I haven't been on the board in several months. It has been kind of crazy for me lately. My family left Venezuela in November right before Thanksgiving. After a super vacation in WDW we made it home to Louisiana right in time to do the Christmas shopping, planning and decorating....along with unpacking. Anyway, we found out only two months later that we were having to move again. We just sold our home in LA a month ago and moved to Tulsa, OK for my dh job. I really like it here; however, because it is all new to me I am still learning about the cities and the state. We know that there is a Six Flags park in Oklahoma City. However, we have been told that it is pretty small. Has anyone ever been? Is it comparable to Astroworld or Six Flags in Texas? Of course we know that nothing will match WDW, but we are considering going and getting season passes since we have been told we are only 1 1/2 hours away. I think that my 4 and 7 year old daughters would like it. Has anyone been that can give a little information?

We live in Edmond (OKC suburb) & that park is just 6 or 7 miles from our house. The name is Frontier City. It has been here since I was a small child - it is quite small. The have 2 pretty good rollercoasters, a flume ride, carosel, etc. The have a pretty cute climb & play structure area. The park is well themed, but you will find it considerably smaller than Six Flags, Fiesta , Texas, etc.

I know there is a new ride this year that kind of looks like something on the bungee/slingshot premise. The season pass is a double park pass with the local water park, White Water Bay. We have done passes before, but realize that you could probably do the whole park in an afternoon or evening. My kids are older now, so I don't remember exactly what kinds of kiddie rides are available. There is a train that goes around the park. Bumper cars. Old-fashioned Tin Lizzies cars on a track that the kids can drive. We do enjoy their summer concert series - have seen some oldies but goodies there.

Let me know what other questions you have.

Thanks so much for the information. I guess that we can leave early on a Saturday morning and just spend the day there. I guess we wouldn't have to have a hotel room for the night. We can decide about the season passes once we get there.

Thanks so much again for letting me know. I am glad to know that we can do it in one day. It will make for a good weekend outing! :)

I really like Oklahoma! The people here are extremely friendly. I look forward to getting to see more of the state. From what I can tell, there are lots of different lakes and state parks. My husband and I like to fish so I look forward to visiting them all!

I live in Norman. Frontier City is pretty small, but it would be great for 4 and 7 year olds! They have several things geared toward the younger set as well as the usual roller coasters, etc. My kids are 12 and 15 and they still like to go. It's not 6 Flags much less Disney, but it's still fun.

Is it really only 90 minutes Tulsa-OKC?

I really can't answer that. We haven't been to OK City yet. We have been told that it is only 1 1/2 hours though. We have driven to Eureka Springs, Arkansas from Tulsa. We were told that it was a 3 1/2 hour drive. However, it only took us about 3 hours. So, I am hoping that the drive to Oklahoma City will be only 1 1/2 hours just like we have been told!!!!
Thanks for the info. MerryPoppins! I look forward to taking the girls!!! I know that they will love it!

It only takes us about 2 hours to Tulsa from Norman. I would guess that 1 1/2 or a little more than that would be what it will take you between OKC and Tulsa.

By the way, should I add your usernames to my list for the next Oklahoma DIS meet? We had one a little over a year ago in Stillwater and we had a blast. I think we are going to try for one in the fall in Oklahoma City's bricktown.

Let me chime in here!

First of all MerryPoppins...it has been so long. I am SO sorry that I haven't got with you lately!!!!! Is everything "better" at your household lately?

I am so PSYCHED to hear that we are going to do a meet in the Fall...that ROCKS....us OKIES are SO COOL!!!

I have two DDs 6 and 8. We LOVE to go to Frontier City. It is an hour from Stillwater. We have season passes and usually go twice a month. They have some fun stuff for Octoberfest and for Halloween, so don't forget to go then as well....

No, it is not WDW, but I am such an amusement park and fair junkie, that it gives me my fix! The girls love it!

Cheers!

You know, we could do Octoberfest at FC if people wanted to. It is fun and the weather is cool and nice.

We are doing great. DH fell 6 to 8 feet after rappelling with Scouts and is in a walking cast for the next 8 weeks. My doctors say I am still "cancer-free". DD's foot finally got well after her 9 days in the hospital with chicken pox. DS says we are a scary bunch. He figures he's next. LOL!

Hey! YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Add my name to the list. I would love to get together and meet some of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, again, for the information on the park. We will have to make that trip soon.:p

Ohhhh..... I LOVE Bricktown!!!!!

We go to the Big XII Baseball Tournament there.... park the car and walk everywhere! What a great area.

Never been to Frontier City, but maybe we'll have to try it.

:D
