My wife and I usually go to Disney very late October / early November. Gnerally we can book a reasonable place a DVC resort around that time. Anywhere from after Halloween until thanksgiving we can usually book with as little as 2-3 months out and still get reasonable rooms at Kidani for example.

Just went last night to book our somewhat usual stay and it's PACKED. Not a single room at any of the resorts we usually stay at (and can usually get with this much in advance).

What gives that suddenly November got so popular? Is there some promotion going on that I missed?

The Food & Wine Festival has been extended and is getting more popular every year. Keep trying, I pulled together a mid November stay at BWV in 2013 a couple of months out by stalking the website and waitlist. I also think more people are renting points with the increase in cash prices. If you look at non-member boards, people are suggesting looking into point rental a lot.

I was wondering if there was more point selling going on and was going to ask that.

Thanks for the advice - i'll keep dogging it!

The days of booking less than 7 months are gone IMO and as Disney continues to implement schedule changes and adding events to keep the place at maximum capacity. Pretty soon there will be run events all year long, Halloween will start in August, and the Parks will close early with hard ticket hours all year long.

Well... that's a little doom and gloom.

My post may be a bit exaggerated but this is what Disney is doing, slowly but surely. The only way to guarantee DVC availability at your favorite resorts is to buy there. Yes there are exceptions and variables but WDW is seeing record attendance. MB's, FP+, direct to room, online check in, were implemented to move more people through the venues faster.

Also there is a lot of renovation going on at various resorts. That is taking rooms out of availability for several resorts.

This is why we bought our guaranteed week at Poly for first week of Nov.

Barring something unforeseen, that week will be difficult to book for years to come, especially at 7 mos out

Don't forget to wait list.

Disney had been very clear that their strategy is to balance demand better throughout the year. Not just to get more people there, but they've said they're concerned about the quality of the experience during peak times. I'm not immediately convinced there aren't other things going on with availability due to all the new members but making every part of the year desirable is the announced goal.

We booked September 11-18 and low and behold, F&W begins on the 14! We get some unexpected activities! Who knew it would begin so early!

Agreed-- I have been doing rundisney events and have found that you basically have to book at your home resort right at 11 mo. I used to have waitlists frequently come through but no more, and I have missed the 8 am on the dot for the 7 month switch and even an hr or two later I usually can't snag the new place.
