Looking for a very lightweight, umbrella type stroller for a 4 yr. old that will fold up easily and be easy to carry if not in use because we will have another regular stroller with us too (for the baby). Prefer one with some kind of cover from the sun/rain. Now the big thing...would like to keep the cost down to under $50.00. Am fine with buying used-just want something good that will stand up to all the parks!

Maclaren Volo comes to mind. You can get them on ebay for around $65, but that might be more than you wanted to spend. They push like a dream, especially with an older child in them.

However I had the Baby Trend Euro trend and that was a great stroller. Most of the umbrella types don't have a really great canopy. It'll protect from the sun for the most part, but not the rain, you'll probably have to get a rain cover. You can find those at Target or Walmart for about $10.

I bought the Chicco Caddy for my 5 year old to use for our upcomng trip. It was on clearance for $25 at Target, but I have also seen them on ebay selling anywhere from $20 to $40. It is lightweight, folds easily and comes with a sun shade, rain cover and travel bag. Pushes much easier than a cheapy umbrella stroller. I have also heard lots of good things about the Maclaren Volo ~ probably would've purchased that one if my DD was younger or if we had a younger baby to use it. At 5 years old, I knew we wouldn't get a whole lot of use out of it. I plan on selling the Caddy after our trip.

Can you tell me if there is a weight limit on it? MY son is 5 but very tall. Trying to figure it all out. Thanks

Most strollers max limit is around 40 lbs, but Macs can go up to 55 lbs. For a 4 yr old, Id go with a Mac model. The volvo's now come with a canopy and rain cover I believe (used to have to buy them separately). I love my Mac Quest, but its well out of your price range. Wish I wouldve found it when my son was born instead of when he was 3! At least it will be used with the next baby!

The Caddy has a weight limit of 40 lbs. My DD weighs about that ~ maybe 42 lbs, but she seems to fit just fine and it is easy to push. I also wish I had found the Volo long ago. I definately think it's better for older kids ~ I just couldn't justify spending that much for the little time that we would be using it.

Thanks so much for the recommendations! Both look really great. Will have to decide...I'll try to get to Babies r us sometime in the next few months! (We're not going until Sept.)

Angiewin,
if you read the reviews on amazon (scroll down the page), I think a lot of them talk about those features.

We bought two of these for our 1 & 3 y/o. They are awesome. Older DS is almost 4 and shows no signs of outgrowing it soon

I second the Chicco - mine is slightly different - I think that my handles curve and I couldn't tell, but mine has a nice roomy basket underneath.

We bought it specifically for Disney and absolutely LOVE it.

PLUS - an added bonus - It's easy to find our red stroller in a sea of blue. :flower:

which stroller is light weight enough to carry around in the parks (when not in use)? I know some of them come with carrying handles/straps-how do those work out?
thanks!

We just bought a McClaren Volo for our dd (4) for our upcoming trip. We bought a cheapie $29 Cosco stroller last year and not only was it hard to push, but the handles completely fell apart. I hated to pay more than $50 for a stroller for a 4 year old, but to me it was better than renting a stroller and getting nothing in return. I have never seen a better stroller for an older child. She is 40 lbs. and 42 inches and she has tons of room to grow. It pushes like a dream and the handles are heavy high enough to be comfortable for anyone. It retians a pretty good value, so I plan to put it on Ebay when I'm done with it. It collapes with ease and has a handy strap for carrying purposes. I'm thrilled!!!

If your son is really tall, won't his head hit the top of a canopy?

The Mac has plenty of head room even with the canopy down. I was surprised because this was a problem with every other stroller we looked at.

We just bought a jeep umbrella stroller from BRU. I think it was $30. It is taller then the cheaper versions & cheaper then the big name brands.

My husband picked it out because it was easier for him to push since he is taller then me.

For our last trip we bought an Evenflo mid-size one. It is about 13 lbs (I think). I use it all the time now for my 18 month old. It also worked great in Disney. It has a canopy, a tray for snacks, it reclines-not fully, cup holders for us adults & a nice storage area underneath (those were all my requirements). It was about $50 & well worth it.

I bought the Baby Trend Euro Trend Sport at Babies R Us specifically for taking to Disney last year. I too wanted one under $50, but I ended up spending the $69 for this one because of how sturdy it was for a fold up stroller. It doesn't take up much space when folded, and is fairly light to carry. It is for up to like 50 or 60 lbs, whereas the typical umbrella stroller is only for up to 30 lbs. It maneuvers really well also. The big plus for me is that it has a really good size basket underneath for carrying things. (Another bonus is that my 3 year old has not yet figured out to unbuckle the straps!)

Wasnt thinking of buying one w/ a canopy. He is about 48 inches tall and 50 lbs. All Boy.. lol
