Okay, so what do you do if at a restaurant...

...you order the soup appetizer, the waiter brings that, but he doesn't bring a spoon? He says he'll be right back with a spoon, but not only doesn't return with one, he doesn't return to the table for about 20 minutes? He comes to the table *next* to you, but you aren't able to catch his attention?

This happened to me at dinner tonight at Olive Garden and left DH and me laughing like crazy. By the time the guy returned (still didn't realize I didn't have a spoon), I had one bite left. Only *then* does he bring me a spoon, after I mention it.

LOL!

but how did you eat your soup so as to only have one bite left if you didn't have a spoon? :p :)

You know those breadsticks Olive Garden serves... LOL!

lol Your poor soup... waiting for a spoon...

I usually get up and start searching around for silverware. Then a server usually asks me what I am doing and I tell them. For some reason, we get ignored a lot at restaurants.

One time at Perkins, there was no one around to help and I even went into the kitchen and stood there in full view of servers and cooks and all and nobody said a thing. Needless to say, we left. DH likes Perkins for some reason, but it was a long time before we went back there.

I'm glad that you could see the humor in it. :) You could have slurped it from your bowl I suppose. ;)

eeyore74, that once happened to us at a buffet kind of place. I walked to where they had the silverware and just got it myself. Needless to say the tip wasn't exactly huge!

I think I would have waited and then asked him to take it back and off my bill. I think he would not have forgotten a spoon again.

What I do if I really need something and can't get my waiter's attention after a long time, is call another waiter and ask for what I need.

I'm another one that gets up and starts looking for the silverware, or the napkins, etc. Almost always, some other server spots me looking around the bus station and offers to help out. I've even had instances where I had to ask a different server for silverware and they roll their eyes:rolleyes: - apparently saying "that guy never does any work".;)

I would "borrow" a spoon from an unoccupied table. Don't worry, I wouldn't "return" it:p

grinninghost: maybe they're rolling their eyes because they're not your servers. I've been a waitress for 6 years and on nights that we're really, really busy we sometimes don't have enough time to wait on our own customers properly, say nothing about taking time to do something for someone else's customers. I'm a lot better and more efficient than when I first started (I had been a former secretary so had no waitressing experience), but still there are times someone else's table will try to stop me and ask for something. I just tell them I will let their waitress know...and as for being a customer myself I would never bother another server. The hostess/manager maybe, but not another server.

I seem to have service problems at Perkins and Denny's. Not just one location, but most family or I have dined in. I also hear complaints from casual friends about same places. The best service I ever got at a Denny's was at 2am and place was packed.
