Okay, so how comfortable are the Moderate hotel rooms for a family of 4?

We're a family of four (me, DH, and two boys, ages 8 and 4).

Non of us are overweight (well, by much anyway ), but DH is 6'6" tall, and kind of a big guy at 245lbs. (I'm only 5'3" tall, and about 130lbs, so you can imagine how we look as a couple. )

I'm not too worried at all about room size for our stuff since we pack fairly light, or having 1 bathroom to share in the morning (especially since my family are all boys - they don't care what they look like - they just need to be clean and dressed and they're on their way!)

My main worry are those double size beds. It feels a bit crowded when we share queen size beds while on vacation, but I'm trying to imagine sharing double size beds and actually being able to sleep. And yet families do it everyday at WDW, so then I think that it can't really be THAT bad, right?

Anyway, could any of you give me the real scoop on a family of four sharing two double beds?

I think you will be fine. I've stayed at the mods a few times with a family of 4. It is fine. I have a king bed at home, but at Disney I was sooooo tired I could have slept on the floor. If you and your DH get too cramped sleep with one of the kids - 4 and 8 - they're still small.

I've read in other post how some families either
request a cot (which I saw a picture of and it has a reg. looking mattress)
or bring an airmattress from home and either put them in between the 2 beds or close to the entrance to the room.
POR in the AB section, has a kid size trundle mattress which is under the bed and could be requested and your youngest might like to sleep on.

My family of 4 stayed at a moderate last year (CSR) and we it was great. We have 2 kids - ds 8, dd 6, so close to the ages of your kids. DH and I have king bed at home so we are use to more space. So we just slept with the kids (DH with DS and myself with DD.) That solved the space issue and my kids LOVED snuggling with mom and dad. It was fun memories (other than DS wiggles so much kind of made DH a little crazy...he finally put a pillow between the two of them and all was well.)

The size of the room was fine. I am a bit of an organization freak so we just pack light and then I bring along a few other dollar store items to keep everything neat (hanging material shoe rack for all that junk you'd normally leave all over the sink area - teeth stuff, hair stuff, deoderant, etc.)

Have fun on your trip...the room is definitely enough space if you are mainly using the room for sleep, showers and rest. I can't imagine needing more space as we didn't bring along a stroller or really big.

We stayed at POFQ in January and had 4 adults. We ended up taking a full sized air mattress because my mom got a bad sinus infection and she couldn't share a bed with my sister. Plus, it was just more comfortable. However, my DH and I shared a bed and he sounds like he's about the same size as your DH (he's 6'5" and 240.) It was do-able, but not ideal. The difference is that I'm quite a bit taller (and slightly heavier ) than you (I'm 5'9") so that might make a big difference. I would say it is worth it to not have to get 2 rooms, it's really not 'that' bad.

Our family of 4 shared a room at Pop last year (me, DH, 2 boys - ages 11 and 8 at the time). DH and I are used to sharing a queen at home so a double feels a little tight. Our solution is to each sleep with a kid. The youngest usually slept with me and the oldest with DH. It worked out fine for us for 10nights. I will say that next time we will book a room with more space and queen beds - maybe even a villa an extra bedroom so we can spread out. But that's just my fantasy vacation!!!!

Ya know, I have always shared a bed with my little brother (13) and I'm now22 years old, and we have always fit comfortably. So I don't think that you're young kids should have a problem. We haven't done it in a few years, but I still don't think we would have any problems.

You guys are great! Thanks for all the info! It sounds like we'd be alright sharing two double beds. I would definately share a bed with one of my little boys. As much as I love my big, cute hubby, I don't think I could sleep with him in a double bed. At 6'6" tall, as soon as he turned over on his side, I'd have his knees in my back.

The idea of a small trundle or a twin size air bed sounds good too. I suppose it wouldn't be hard to take a small air bed along, just in case we needed it.

So, mousekeeping and/or hotel managment don't mind if you have a small air bed on the floor in the room?

We actually had a queen sized one DH and I thought we had grabbed the twin before we left, but it was the queen. We left it inflated the whole time, and just propped it up against the wall when it wasn't it use so we had the floor space back. I felt so bad that they were going to think we had more than 4 people in there, but they never said anything. The only issue we had is that we asked if we could have an extra sheet and blanket (because we brought the wrong size thinking we had the twin )and they never brought it, so we used the twin stuff and pulled one of the comforters off the beds.

Another idea that me DS always does for one of her kids, Buy a pool float at a discount store. They only cost about 99cents so yu can just dispose of it after your vacation,no need tor repack it for the trip home. Also, they are easy to blow up manually,fit perfect between two beds (so as not to take up to much room) and mousekeeping can clean around them easily. My Dh and I just sleep with one child each. You will be fine. I have stayed at the mods (all of them) and the values (all of them) with my family of four many times. And my situation is complicated since I have a boy and a girl and they don't like to sleep together (that sounds weird, you know what I mean!). I have taken a sleeping bag or a twin sized air mattress almost each time. At POR we had a trundle and at CSR we got a rollaway (which was around $17 a night). The sleeping bag fit fine between the other beds and the twin mattress fit fine on the side, near the door. During the day, we propped that up against the wall.

As for the double beds, I have seen several posts from disboarders who say the mod doubles are longer than a standard double. Not wider, just longer. One disboarder even measured the difference to prove she was right! So if that is true, than that should help your husband.

I wish all the rooms at the mods and values had the trundle beds, it would make life so much easier! However, that twin airbed, I got at Wal Mart, along with a battery operated pump to blow it up. The two cost around $25 or even less, and I have used it many times.

Good luck! The mods are wonderful, with their lovely grounds, bike rentals, lake or river setting and the pools and pool slides. You guys will have a great time!

They love to swim everyday when we're on vacation, usually in the early evening after a day at the parks. I guess it's their way to wind down (and wear themselves out) before bedtime.

We're just used to sleeping in those queen size beds at the PPH, DLH, ect. Yep, we're spoiled!

Love the looks of those moderate resorts at WDW - so pretty! DH and I have only been to WDW once (without our kids), and we stayed at SSR which was lovely! This time around we're taking the kids along, so we're looking at our options, and the moderates look great! (well, so do the deluxe resorts of course!) Anyway, we now know that a moderate will work for us and be comfortable. Even if we have to bring a small airbed for one of the kids to use, that's no big deal. We can handle that without a problem.

You never know though. We could still show up at Disneyland.

Yeah I started to give you grief for being over on this side but didn't want to sound like a cyber stalker! You definitely need to give WDW a try for your boys (are you the one I was responding to this very issue on the DL side the other night?). The four parks, water parks and the variety of dining and resorts are so great for families. I too love the DLH and PP, the rooms are so spacious but the mods are generally over $100 a night cheaper. I have stayed at all four mods and my kids love them. We own at SSR but the mods are in some ways almost our favorite! You can't go wrong with any of them. Good luck with your choice, you can't make a wrong one thats for sure since DL and WDW are both wonderful!

And funny thing, I'll swear the beds in our DLH room last month were doubles. They seemed so much smaller than our Queen at home. Makes me wonder if a few of them don't have queens, I have never felt like that before and I know the PP and GCH beds are queens.

I think you should be fine at a moderate. CBRs rooms are a little larger than the other moderates but I believe that any moderate will work for you. Now you just have to choose your theme!

Bring the air mattress. That will give you another option if sleeping with the kids does not work out. Our youngest moves around so much there is no way to sleep with him. Those big thick air mattresses are often more comfortable than a hotel bed so be sure to check it our prior to giving it to one of the kids! The air mattresses fit regular twin sheets so be sure to bring a top and bottom sheet.

We were okay at CSR, but by the end of the week it seemed pretty crowded. We were two adults and two small for their age 10-year-olds. I'd bring an air mattress or request a rollaway.
