Since I am partially handicapped and need the use of an ECV for parks. I usually get to the parks at opening to rent one. I know they have only a limited number and renting one for the whole week is not an option for us.
Because we need to be there at 9 am we usually have 8 am ADR's for breakfast and this time around we have a number of character meals planned

My problem is this: we are traveling with my DD, DGS and DSIL this trip and they are not early risers. For them to make an 8 am ressie, they would have to get up by 6:30 and out the door by 7:30 am. Don't know if they are capbale of doing this without getting disgruntled. Don't want to make them grouchey or wear them out because of me.

So am thinking of making the ressies for 8:30/ 9 or 9:30 am yet don't know if they would still have the ECV's by the time we got there which would be in most cases an hour later. I am between a rock and a hard place.

Any suggestions you can give - please do. Ineed help. Only 2 days before Ineed to make ressies.

Can you eat your meals in the parks? Pick up your ECV at 9:00am right before breakfast? All parks have character breakfasts.

Maybe call Disney and ask if one can be reserved for specific days??

If all else fails, tell the non-early risers if they dont want breakfast at 8:00pm, they are welcome to eat later......as long as they give you a piggy back ride for the rest of the day!!!

Where are you staying?

Is it possible for you to do your early riser thing, get to the parks, get your ECV (and possibly some touring or shopping or something) and then meet them for a late breakfast?

You can't reserve an ECV ahead of time (as a previous poster suggested to call & try). I spent a week in WDW last year with 4 people in my group who were using ECVs. I suggest you get to a park at opening, rent the ECV at 9am, & make your ADRs for 9:30 or later. Good luck & have fun!

I use an ECV as well. I used to do the "have to be at the park early and not leave or hop all day because they may run out of EVCs" thing. Then I got tired of having that be a huge concern during my vacation so now I rent from an offsite place. They bring the ECV to my hotel and I don't have to worry about when I arrive and if an ECV is available

Not getting your scooter would be worse than them not getting to sleep late. I would suggest asking them what they think. Eating breakfast in the park would be a good idea and then get the scooter when the park opens. Good luck! Also, maybe not have the character meals every morning so that some days they can get up a little later, but then again it's Disney!!! We get up really early some days for our character breakfast and some days we eat a late character breakast and sleep later. See what they say.

Honstly you need to worry about you first. So you and who you are traveling with need to go eat your 8:00 am breakfast and meet up with the others later after they r done breakfast. Cause if you wait for them and then it's to late for you to get your chair then what r u supposed to do. So it's not being mean or anything but if they can't get up and be ready for you then you have to think of you first and meet uo with them later. I know the ECV'S are limited . So it's better to be safe then sorry.

This is just one of the companies that can rent you an ECV for the duration of your stay. That way you'd have one all to yourself and can do exactly as you please. There are probably other companies as well and it might be a good idea to check the DISabilities board to see if there are any others mentioned there to compare prices. I hope this helps! :goodvibes

I would go early and rent the scooter and meet them at bf. I think a few hours up alone would be relaxing.Grab a drink and relax:cloud9:

In December my mom finally tried a ECV and loved it. We didn't have a problem with any park running out of them, but I would say if you are an early riser head over to the park, get your scooter and then plan on meeting the rest of your party at whatever time you decide on. This way you won't have to worry about it.

Next week while we are down we rented a scooter for the week and it will be delivered to our resort by the time we check-in and my mom can use it in the parks as well as when we go to the Boardwalk or DTD.

Why do you need to eat breakfast with them?

Do what you normally do, let them sleep until whenever they want, and meet up later.

I could never wake up to my in-laws morning routine. Neither could my husband. And the in-laws know that. So the do their thing, we do ours and by noon, we all are in sync and every one is happy.

And the reverse is true at night. Mother-in-law in bed by 10:00, father-in-law in his relaxed mode and we're up doing lots of things.

Almost all the time we stay in the same room and it works out.

Why not just rent a ECV from an outside company and not have to worry about renting it each day? It's typically cheaper, you get it longer, and they deliver it to your hotel.

I'm always surprised at the people who need one and don't do this.

As others have said, the best thing to do is rent an ECV from an outside company. We did this when my DH had a broken ankle, and it worked great. I think we rented from Walker, and it was basically the same price as Disney charges. You get it for the whole week, you keep it in your room and charge it overnight, and you never have to worry that there won't be any for you to rent.

It was the best thing we could have done. My dh broke his ankle the week before our trip, and he was just going to stay home.

I would highly recommend renting a scooter from an outside company as well. We always rent one for my mom from www.walkermobility.com and can highly recommend them. It is great not having to worry about availability, not having to walk back to buses/room after a very long day and not to mention they are much cheaper than renting directly from Disney!
