Okay my first serious post…… hmmmmmrrf Yea right….

Yes we were there and as always we all had a great time, mostly at (Disney's expense mind you).

There were a lot of angry traders that came in angry and wanted a piece of somebody, now mind you not angry that we are out of hosting jobs, :p but because of the pin rules, and they were up on a big cardboard sign telling everybody to come one come all on March 22nd.

First of all I spent most of the night rescuing cast members from angry people that wanted answers, these people are worker bee's just like us gang, they get their orders from above and they just obey like we do, so be gentle.

Now onto the fun stuff, I talked with a whole group of higher up's though none wanted to be quoted, this is the official unofficial response.

The rules as read by Orson Well's…..

1… Pin bag per guest yes this is official rule, but if you ask me bring a big pin bag, heck turn your suitcase into a pin bag… its one isn't it, they want to cut down on the things like the people bringing in 5 bags and then complaining because a bag or pins are missing, or spreading them all out, and making it look like a pin flea market…. but the big reason is room, the more bags there are the less room there is, and there will be more tables and it will be more cramped.

2… The kids only area… its not an evil tactic of give us your kids trade nice and you may get them back, its an area where kids can go and trade with other kids, and to have activities for the non trader of the family, so if their brother or sister wants to color or cut up paper while the family pin trades they can, it's a sitter type service be glad.

They want to cut down on the following, the parents that let their kids run loose during pin trading, the kids that have those free pins given out to them by the hotels and not being able to trade with anybody, now they have a section were they can, and cast members to trade with. Its an activity area for them to play in, I don't know about the rest of the kids, but my youngest granddaughter gets bored with pins after the first 30 minutes, and just goes off to color or play with her gameboy. Now she has a place to go.

No! the heavy duty trader kids, or any trader kids for that matter are not banded from trading with the adults, yes the adults are not, to go to into the kids area to trade, but yes you can go to the kid area to interact with the kids, like if I want to give a kid a pin or play a guessing game or guess the flippin pin you can, for me to go in there with my pin bag for the purpose of engaging in a trade is a no no (and really that's fine don't you think)

3… There will be cast members on hand to help answer question, help with trades, watch the kids and so on, they are not there to act as pin Nazi's, so please give them a warm welcome remember my worker bee analogy. There will not be 25 cast members one assigned to each pin trader to watch over every trade, and approve or disapprove of every trade, and tackle you if you make your way towards the kid's section.

If you want to ask another pin trader a question about a pin go right ahead, some of us know more then they ever will, and another helping hand will always be appreciated, and yes you can talk to and have fun with the new cast people they are people too remember that.

To be honest I spoke to a few who would like to be up for the job, but they are torn they want to do it, but are terrified because they think there might be an angry response to the whole thing, and they don't want to loose any friendships over this whole thing.

4… The hours of 7pm to 10pm… are we kicked out a 10pm nooooooo, we can stay as long as we want, but the tables will be removed at 10pm… why? Because they are on loan from the convention center from 7pm to 10 pm that's why… they will be set up by 7pm and removed at 10pm or somewhere around 10pm that is, you got a heavy trade going on move your pin bag and keep going. Also the Disney cast people will leave at 10pm. After that you're on your own.

Its really a whole liability thing, and I for one am glad, if anything happen now its Disney responsibility to fix it, but before since it was an unofficial pin event who was liable? What if during my hosting days a pin trader made a bad trade, and decided to jump in front of the monorail, who would be responsible to clean that up?

5… (The big enchilada A pin for pin trade) does this mean a Mickey for president is worth a Bambi rack pin, and you must trade? Remember the Nazi cast member watching over you to make sure it happens, and oh by the way the lady with the Bambi pin is their mother so it better happen…:p who dreams this stuff up… this was taken from the lanyard rule of a pin for pin not one for two, but one for one.

Obviously the rule writer had no clue that a holy grail Flubber is worth several pins and so on, the rule will amended I was told this by several management types.

Now your trading and you want to make a trade, but you want five of mine for one of yours do we…

A: give the secret signal, hide the pins in our pockets, tell the guard we need air, and when they are not looking make the trade?
B: give the secret signal pack up our bags get in our cars and drive to Perkins and make the trade?
C: give the secret signal, fake a heart attack and while I performs CPR I hide the pins in your coat, when you get the five, you make a miraculous recovery and give me a pin as gratitude?
D: I pretend to trade you one and give you four as a token of my love for you and your family.
Or
E: We agree make the trade do a happy pin dance and get on with life.

I don't know, I like A-D it might be fun, but again let me point out (JUST MAKE THE TRADE) I don't see a Disney person asking you to leave or be escorted out by security because as the court reporters papers will show.

Your honor the accused stands before you charged with crime of trading 2 pins for 1, the courts finds them guilty, and hereby bans them from pin trading for 2 months, with no access to Ebay either…

Sounds silly now don't it; a lot of people want the Disney approach to fail, and a lot of rumors are floating around… lets give it a try before we condemn it, go in with a positive attitude and treat the worker bees nicely, lets be courteous to the guest that don't have a clue, and above it all people they are just pins to most not to all, but to most.

There are the one's or two's out there that want this to end now!!! and go back to the old ways, but last night was my first NOTTAHOST night and I had a blast, to me it's about the people. I want to interact and have a good time… so who's with me.

Tell you what if I'm wrong and Disney turns in the pin Nazi police… I will buy a huge motor home (Nat will help me) I'll gut it out and turn it into one of those rolling illegal pin party wagons. Seriously I'll take around from place to place and have pin parties I'll park it outside Perkins for Perdita one night, and Kmart another, I'll take it south, and North and have a good time with my rolling pin show.

So in closing I'll give it a try and I hope the rest of you will too I'll still do my shameless plugs because its still my meeting place of choice.

Disclaimers real ones this time sort of…

These are my opinions and mine only, they are put together through the endless meetings and conversations I have had all week with Disney personnel, all of it is unofficial unless Jim Green gives me a job, then I'll be uncontrollable and will get a big head (leave it alone kids) Treat the employees nice or I'll have a major problem with you. My whole family has been banned from allstarpintradding no reason given boo hoo I'm sad.

sorry Ed, had to edit this disclaimer a bit....I know you will understand....Sue Ellen

Thank you Ed for the update...

My only question is will there be a pin meet on MArch 15?

Oh gee! I'm a poet and don't know it!!
Tee hee!!:p :p And no, I do not mean the "horse" Ed.:D

Hi Lisa!! I'm Winnie-Pooh!! No really; my name is Winnie!
As for March 15th, yes there will be a meet. I'll be there as will many other board members. Maybe we'll have the chance to meet, and hey, who knows, TRADE!

As for Ed's comments, I cannot agree more. Yes, I was aggitated at first. But as I thought about it the last two days, and after reading many posts on different boards, I decided, to keep an open mind and give it a chance.

I had the pleasure of talking with two cast members last night at the meet. They were more than nice and patient about the whole thing, despite the fact that they were hit with a barrage of questions throughout the evening. One of the poor things, barely got there and was from what he said verbally attacked. Not mean, but it was like, no hello, how are you, just wham!! Well what do "YOU" think of this whole mess!!

So I am in total agreement with Ed about the cast members. They may have their opinions, but they also have jobs with the "Mouse" that they love and value. Know what I mean? So try to cut them some slack.

Nothing is totally in stone, and Disney will adjust as they deem neccesary. They know they've got a good thing, and they're not about to commit $$$ or pin suicide! So hang in there and let's put our best foot forward and give it a chance.

As for the trading one for one, I would love to try "C". I was pretty good in Drama in High School and College. Think we can pull it off Ed? It would be fun trying anyway!! hehehehe!

And by the way, I was banned for ASPPT too as was hubby, guilty by association I guess, since he never posted. Me, I was a bad girl for posting an idea about dressing up for MGM event and stepping on webmasters toes 'cause it wasn't his idea. And yes I did cry, literally, but I'm over it, moving on and having fun. And hey, I feel right at home here on the Dis Boards!!! Thanks bunches!!!

Blessings forever!
Winnie

This is my chance to finally meet you, do you think a little thing like a Civil War can stop that :p

Ed,
As usual, your summations are informative and interesting. And so riviting, I sat here with a lemon filled donut and didn't take a bite until I had finished the entire post.
I can't wait to see what the "new" meets are like. It will be nice to be able to spend some time with you without having 500 people interupt our conversation with silly pin questions.
When I read your new name "NOTAHOST" it reminded me of one of my favorite AK commercials. NOTAZU. Now we all have to us our best African accents and yell when we see you" NOTAHOST" I hope someone knows what I am talking about and doesn't think I am totally crazy.
Make sure you map in CT when you start your tour. I know the CT contingent will all be willing to be your roadies. We can set up the awning and tables for our traveling meets.
Peggie

Ed you are so sweet to think of me!! I always have to get my Perkins pancakes fixes (yes that's plural) when I am down.

Since the meets will no longer be "hosted" by pinheads, are you going to make up a NOTTASHARK label we can wear so we know who is safe to trade with?? (Yes, Peggie - I saw that commercial during P-Ball weekend when I was down)

~Nancy~

Of course I'm not even sure when our next trip will be. :(

But let's get to more important stuff....

When does Raul's Traveling Pin Show and Kick Line arrive in the Metro Washington area?

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Some follow-up questions:

1. What do pin roadies wear? Is a boa required?
2. Is there an age minimum/maximum for the roadie crewmembers?
3. Can you be a roadie and trade pins too?
4. Will training be provided in advance of the arrival of the Pin Cruiser?
5. Where do babies come from?
6. Why do people ask so many questions?

Alright I can take a hint.

Nat I need a motor home, a biiiiiiig motor home can ya help me out, or are you in the backyard gutting yours out already.

Nat buddy think about it... call your company man, not only will you get a chance to trade pins, you tell him you'll be showing off the latest RV models to your pin pals, who all will need thier own traveling pin shows.

We may have ourselves a convoy here kids.

RV's to Disneyland anybody.

We may have ourselves a convoy here kids.

Am I the only one picturing that scene in the movie Independance Day with all the RV's driving through the desert?

I guess that would be us driving over to Jeff's house :D

I am so disappointed I did not get to make it to this Friday nights pin meet. Of all of them I really want to make sure I don’t miss any right now. I want this transition to go as smoothly as possible. That is the third one in 10 months that I have missed. Thanks so much to all whom made it there. My poor little low riding 2-seater sports car may be takings it’s last breaths. It is in the shop for now.

For those of you who drive a van you will think this is silly , but those of you who have never driven one, I’ll bet you’ll understand. We just got an extended van. You sit over the wheels It is so different from what I have been driving. I have to go through tollbooths and all. It’s much taller, wider and longer than what I have driven for the last 10 years. We get the tags for the van Monday and I guess it is already insured automatically for first 30 days. I just need time to get the hang of turning sooner and swinging wider or longer or something ;)

I had told many of the regulars that my car was in the shop Thursday with a big hospital bill and that I likely would not be able to make it. Anyway that is what kept me from making it this weekend. I wanted to post this Friday night when I would have been at the meet but we had a small personal emergency at home/work. Every time I tried to get on this weekend I got a system busy message or a maintenance message. Wish I could have gotten this up sooner. Gang I would just like to say that Disney wants this to be a great experience for everyone. They are not making the rules to upset anyone.

If anyone has constructive criticism to give, just forward it to Disney, but please make sure it is constructive. If you have a complaint, voice the complaint and then tell them how you see it could be better arranged or improved. None of us as humans want to aggravate people just for the sake of making enemies. Typically we are TRYING to do something for the good. When it backfires we probably realize it after it is too late. Disney wants to keep this as great as it has been and is NOT trying to offend anyone or run anyone off. I did not have to be at the Friday night pin meet to know this.

While my feelings were hurt (why was that? silly me! ) I will say that Jim and his staff have been nothing but accommodating as with the Contemporary and their staff. It is fun to know that I was able to start something that was so successful. It is also fun to hear everybody’s reasons why it was. It’s kind of like Christmas. Everyone has his or her own idea of what makes it special. But in the end it is each of us who makes it what we want it to be.

So until there is really something going on that will lessen our experience and Disney does not see fit to change that, I would like to ask that everyone continue to come to the Friday night pin meets. Continue to base your arrival time/date around the meet. You will still enjoy yourself if you set your mind to. Thanks to each of you who sent me a personal email. They were greatly appreciated

Hey Everybody just adding a little something to my post on the subject that we send Disney any complaints, and also to voice our concerns, what say lets hold off on sending Disney any criticism or complaints, since they don't officially start to run the show until the 22nd we really have nothing to base them on.

I for one will wait until after the 22nd and see how it goes; I'm like my friend Steve positive Karma will get you positive results.

Lets all just think happy thoughts. and thanks for all the positive responses, I do appreciate them.

But let's get to more important stuff....

When does Raul's Traveling Pin Show and Kick Line arrive in the Metro Washington area?

Answer... its the first stop who do you think is driving.

Some follow-up questions:

1. What do pin roadies wear? Is a boa required?

The usual we love Ed t-shirt and yes matching boa is required.

2. Is there an age minimum/maximum for the roadie crewmembers?

No age limit but as past record shows I'm partial to older women (I'm soooo dead)

3. Can you be a roadie and trade pins too?

As long as you are not driving, yes... if you are driving you need a proxy.

4. Will training be provided in advance of the arrival of the Pin Cruiser?

Yes we'll do it now repeat after me (if your a woman driving the pin cruiser) "why officer I had no idea I was going that fast, can you ever find it in your heart to forgive this poor mother of ten"… (If you're a man driving the pin cruiser) "Officer I had a good reason why I was going so fast, you see last week my wife ran off with a policeman, and I thought you were trying to bring her back"

5. Where do babies come from?

They are brought up from marketing and research, after they take a course in time management skills, and can fill the paperwork after every meal, and have had the built-in alarm installed. (it always goes off at 3 in the morning)

6. Why do people ask so many questions?hem.

Shameless flirting, a way society allows us to flirt while getting answers to question we make up while saying man that person is cute.

There are sooooo many things that Disney does do RIGHT!! Has anybody stopped to consider that this could conceivably be like having a pin event every Friday? These folks are supposed to be professionals. Perhaps they just want to provide a more positive experience for us? In their own way, maybe they're trying to look out for us. It won't be all bad - it might be really great.

Besides, for those of you that have doubts, I would most respectfully ask, "What else would we go? Where would we go?" Disney has been very good in allowing us to use their facilities scot-free, and it's been great! It their property, and they have a right to manage it.

I sat and watched the special on CBS tonight about 9/11. It goes a long way towards putting things into perspective. I, for one, am and have always been grateful that I am lucky enough to live close enough to Disney to go play there whenever the mood strikes me. I feel we do ourselves a great disservice if we allow ourselves to fall into complecency.

I intend to assume that all will be fine until they give us a concrete reason to think otherwise. What have you got to lose???
