Okay my first serious post
hmmmmmrrf Yea right
.
Yes we were there and as always we all had a great time, mostly at (Disney's expense mind you).
There were a lot of angry traders that came in angry and wanted a piece of somebody, now mind you not angry that we are out of hosting jobs,
but because of the pin rules, and they were up on a big cardboard sign telling everybody to come one come all on March 22nd.
First of all I spent most of the night rescuing cast members from angry people that wanted answers, these people are worker bee's just like us gang, they get their orders from above and they just obey like we do, so be gentle.
Now onto the fun stuff, I talked with a whole group of higher up's though none wanted to be quoted, this is the official unofficial response.
The rules as read by Orson Well's ..
1 Pin bag per guest yes this is official rule, but if you ask me bring a big pin bag, heck turn your suitcase into a pin bag its one isn't it, they want to cut down on the things like the people bringing in 5 bags and then complaining because a bag or pins are missing, or spreading them all out, and making it look like a pin flea market . but the big reason is room, the more bags there are the less room there is, and there will be more tables and it will be more cramped.
2 The kids only area its not an evil tactic of give us your kids trade nice and you may get them back, its an area where kids can go and trade with other kids, and to have activities for the non trader of the family, so if their brother or sister wants to color or cut up paper while the family pin trades they can, it's a sitter type service be glad.
They want to cut down on the following, the parents that let their kids run loose during pin trading, the kids that have those free pins given out to them by the hotels and not being able to trade with anybody, now they have a section were they can, and cast members to trade with. Its an activity area for them to play in, I don't know about the rest of the kids, but my youngest granddaughter gets bored with pins after the first 30 minutes, and just goes off to color or play with her gameboy. Now she has a place to go.
No! the heavy duty trader kids, or any trader kids for that matter are not banded from trading with the adults, yes the adults are not, to go to into the kids area to trade, but yes you can go to the kid area to interact with the kids, like if I want to give a kid a pin or play a guessing game or guess the flippin pin you can, for me to go in there with my pin bag for the purpose of engaging in a trade is a no no (and really that's fine don't you think)
3 There will be cast members on hand to help answer question, help with trades, watch the kids and so on, they are not there to act as pin Nazi's, so please give them a warm welcome remember my worker bee analogy. There will not be 25 cast members one assigned to each pin trader to watch over every trade, and approve or disapprove of every trade, and tackle you if you make your way towards the kid's section.
If you want to ask another pin trader a question about a pin go right ahead, some of us know more then they ever will, and another helping hand will always be appreciated, and yes you can talk to and have fun with the new cast people they are people too remember that.
To be honest I spoke to a few who would like to be up for the job, but they are torn they want to do it, but are terrified because they think there might be an angry response to the whole thing, and they don't want to loose any friendships over this whole thing.
4 The hours of 7pm to 10pm are we kicked out a 10pm nooooooo, we can stay as long as we want, but the tables will be removed at 10pm why? Because they are on loan from the convention center from 7pm to 10 pm that's why they will be set up by 7pm and removed at 10pm or somewhere around 10pm that is, you got a heavy trade going on move your pin bag and keep going. Also the Disney cast people will leave at 10pm. After that you're on your own.
Its really a whole liability thing, and I for one am glad, if anything happen now its Disney responsibility to fix it, but before since it was an unofficial pin event who was liable? What if during my hosting days a pin trader made a bad trade, and decided to jump in front of the monorail, who would be responsible to clean that up?
5 (The big enchilada A pin for pin trade) does this mean a Mickey for president is worth a Bambi rack pin, and you must trade? Remember the Nazi cast member watching over you to make sure it happens, and oh by the way the lady with the Bambi pin is their mother so it better happen
who dreams this stuff up
this was taken from the lanyard rule of a pin for pin not one for two, but one for one.
Obviously the rule writer had no clue that a holy grail Flubber is worth several pins and so on, the rule will amended I was told this by several management types.
Now your trading and you want to make a trade, but you want five of mine for one of yours do we
A: give the secret signal, hide the pins in our pockets, tell the guard we need air, and when they are not looking make the trade?
B: give the secret signal pack up our bags get in our cars and drive to Perkins and make the trade?
C: give the secret signal, fake a heart attack and while I performs CPR I hide the pins in your coat, when you get the five, you make a miraculous recovery and give me a pin as gratitude?
D: I pretend to trade you one and give you four as a token of my love for you and your family.
Or
E: We agree make the trade do a happy pin dance and get on with life.
I don't know, I like A-D it might be fun, but again let me point out (JUST MAKE THE TRADE) I don't see a Disney person asking you to leave or be escorted out by security because as the court reporters papers will show.
Your honor the accused stands before you charged with crime of trading 2 pins for 1, the courts finds them guilty, and hereby bans them from pin trading for 2 months, with no access to Ebay either
Sounds silly now don't it; a lot of people want the Disney approach to fail, and a lot of rumors are floating around lets give it a try before we condemn it, go in with a positive attitude and treat the worker bees nicely, lets be courteous to the guest that don't have a clue, and above it all people they are just pins to most not to all, but to most.
There are the one's or two's out there that want this to end now!!! and go back to the old ways, but last night was my first NOTTAHOST night and I had a blast, to me it's about the people. I want to interact and have a good time so who's with me.
Tell you what if I'm wrong and Disney turns in the pin Nazi police I will buy a huge motor home (Nat will help me) I'll gut it out and turn it into one of those rolling illegal pin party wagons. Seriously I'll take around from place to place and have pin parties I'll park it outside Perkins for Perdita one night, and Kmart another, I'll take it south, and North and have a good time with my rolling pin show.
So in closing I'll give it a try and I hope the rest of you will too I'll still do my shameless plugs because its still my meeting place of choice.
Disclaimers real ones this time sort of
These are my opinions and mine only, they are put together through the endless meetings and conversations I have had all week with Disney personnel, all of it is unofficial unless Jim Green gives me a job, then I'll be uncontrollable and will get a big head (leave it alone kids) Treat the employees nice or I'll have a major problem with you. My whole family has been banned from allstarpintradding no reason given boo hoo I'm sad.
sorry Ed, had to edit this disclaimer a bit....I know you will understand....Sue Ellen
