Okay, need help....

Problems are occuring with the planned (and deposited!) DL trip in November, and DH acutally said....maybe we should just go down to WDW instead!
So, just in the "wishing and hoping" stage, but wanted to know your ideas to keep the basics of the trip low. We live in MN, are a family of five, and are going for the week of Thanksgiving. We have from 11/18 (evening) through 11/27 to "play" with.
We don't have a AAA membership, but were wondering if it would worthwhile getting one. We can't qualify for the Disney Visa, unfortunately. Other than that, we're pretty open.

Check what the AAA discount would be, you may save a little on your room. I would also check package prices. AAA packages with us have always been more than when we booked thru Disney ourselves.

HI there, I can tell you that the week of Thanksgiving is going to be heavily booked and expensive! The week after would be a better financial bet, but you never know. I would also look at renting DVC points from a DVC member on this board. Go to "DVC rent/trade" board and post dates you want and request Old Key West 1Br (this is the least expensive of the DVC resorts I believe) Also check for weekdays only (weekends are more than double the cost) and find out rates at a value for the weekends (split stay) good luck!!

before you start planning check to see if you can find any availablity on site. i'm a dvc member, and when i made reservations (for 2 weeks prior to thanksgiving back in april) there was next to nothing available. thanksgiving week is now listed as one of the highest attendance weeks at the park. so dvc or cash there may be very limited availablity (and what's out there may be $$$).

if you will be needing airfare you will probably be looking at very high rates as well (tickets we bought a couple of months ago are now 3 or 4 times the cost).

if you have a trip booked to disney land and have everything in place you may want to just consider keeping it as is or if you need to cancel, try to do wdw after thanksgiving week.

I don't have any good advice, but wanted to say DH and I live in MN and are heading to DL around the same time. Nov 15-22. I ended up using Dreams Unlimited; got a nice quote from them.

There are several condos for auction on skyauction for minimal money for that week. We haven't tried those, but I am sure you can some info on the boards. We are staying at Embasy Grand the week of thanksgiving and stayed at Vistana last Sept. both won on skyauction. We really enjoyed Vistana, with some help from people on the board, and heard great things about EG. We really like staying at a 2 or 3 bedroom condo off property because we have more room and can save lots of money. We figure we save $150, with paying parking, just from a value resort let alone a 2 bedroom, with a kitchen and laundry in room, on property. It also gives mommy and daddy vacation time too when the little ones nap or sleep. We get a AAA diamond card which allows us to park close, the only park which has a walk is MK. Lastly, priceline seems to have cheaper "booked" flights the last couple times we looked.
