Hey, everyone!!!

I have had the hardest time trying to narrow down which resort to stay at during my upcoming trip. :scratchin

After much thought and consideration, I just couldn't bring myself to make reservations at a deluxe resort, because we are staying 9 nights, and it will get too pricey. Possibly a deluxe resort when we have a shorter stay. So, I decided to go for a moderate resort, and then I had the hardest time trying to decide that.

Between POR and CBR, I finally made a reservation for POR - with a request to stay in the Mansions. It's only two of us with a King room, so I thought my chances would be pretty good for a Mansion room.

I am reading on a lot of threads that most people don't get to stay in the Mansions and end up in the AB rooms, even if they request the Mansions. I don't want to sound snooty (:snooty:), but if I can't stay in the Mansions, then I would prefer to stay at CBR.

Do you think my chances are pretty good for staying at the Mansions, or do very few people actually get their request to stay in the Mansions?

I am so picky when it comes to my vacation to WDW, and it has been four years since my last visit (what's wrong with me???), my husband and I's first trip to the World along, 2nd Anniversary trip, my graduation present, and both of our first time to stay on Disney property, so I want everything to be absolutely perfect.

I don't know what to do....keep my POR reservation and cross my fingers or change to CBR?? Any words of wisdom?? I know I can count on Disney fanatics like me!! :grouphug:

Thanks!!

I would keep the reservation at POR. We've stayed twice and both times our request for the mansions was granted. FWIW, we would stay at POR in AB over CBR anyway (we've visited CBR several times and we simply prefer the look/feel of POR).

We are making our 3rd trip to POR in December. We love the resort. We've stayed in the Mansions both previous times (2nd time with a request), but this time we are going without a room request - we figure if we're in a Mansion, we know we like it, and if not, it will be fun to try something new.

Mansions or not, the resort is beautiful. I think its the most beautiful and romantic of the moderates. The grounds are so well landscaped, with the river running through it!

remember they have been refurbing the mansions recently...I think 2 at a time which would cut down on the availability...they should be done by the time of your visit and i would think your request would be granted.....when time gets much closer fax a room request indicating anniversary etc, try to get an early flight so you get there early to get first assignment etc....

don't worry, the resort is beautiful, you have made a good choice!

We also only like staying in the Magnolia Bend section. We always make sure to note it on our reservation and aks the Cm when we check in. We try to be really nice about it and they have always put us in our requested section. Dont think you will have trouble. We are staying there in Dec as well and cant wait.
Unfortunatly many of the resorts have been inundated with faxed request so they are no longer really paying attention to them.

POR is wonderful, we requested the Mansions in 2001 but they were closed for refubs when we got there. We loved the resort and AB was lovely, full of wildlife and really quiet and peaceful.

I would keep the reservation and make sure that whoever checks you in knows you really want MB.

It's funny - DH & I were just talking about this earlier this evening...Back in 1997, the very first time we stayed at POR, we requested a room in the Mansions section. I had absolutely NO INTEREST in staying in AB. Well, needless to say, we got a room in AB! I foolishly spent the first few hours of my trip being down in the dumps! Believe it or not, by the second day, I was completely IN LOVE with the Bayou rooms! I actually think I might be a little disappointed with the mansion rooms now!!

We've been back a few times since (& will be there again in a few days!) & have always stayed in AB. We never make a request either way - we're happy with a surprise. But, trust me, the AB rooms are so secluded & romantic - you won't be disappointed! (Oh, and I agree with wdwrich - we'd take a room anywhere in POR over CBR any day! We've stayed there a few times as well, and it's just not the same to us!)

Have you considered splitting your stay? Nine days is a long time! If you can swing it I would try a deluxe for three or four days. Especially since it is just the two of you. It would be easy to switch resorts and I have read that Disney makes it easy to switch. Although I have never done that. But I can dream can't I?

DH and I went and stayed at POR (Dixie Landings) for our Honeymoon and absolutely did not know what a room request was at that time. We ended up in the AB section and loved it because we were close to the first bus stop and it was just magical being at that great resort. For the 8th anniversary and Graduation present stay we also stayed at POR, this time in the Mansion and again we had a magical stay. There different but both great.

The 10 year anniversary was done with the kids and although that is its own magical experience to see Mickey through their eyes, we wouldn't dream of switching resorts during a stay. So I say do two resorts before you have those beautiful mouseketeers to bring with you!

OK maybe this is just my dream, but its a thought! Come to think of it there is that KIDS GO FREE thing!! Maybe I should be planning another trip!

Where ever you go you will have a wonderful time. ENJOY!

Thank you everyone for your replies and thougts. Based on the replies, I believe I will take the chance with POR. I figure I will be happy regardless if I stay in the AB rooms or the mansions. But I will keep my fingers crossed for the Mansions.

Thanks for the inspiration!!! I love this forum! :-)

i know I'm late in getting to this, but I have to say that the AB rooms totally ROCK!! I stayed there in August and the rooms and the grounds are just so amazing. I never wanted to leave.

You can't go wrong with POR really! I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Disneedad and I absolutely LOVE POR (although it will always be Dixie Landings to us. We've stayed in the Mansions three times and loved every stay. I don't mind if we have to walk a little bit to the bus, it's very enjoyable to see the ducks swimming in the river. It's a gorgeous resort, and definitely our favorite - althought I must admit we really did like AKL - but POR is the best value for the money!!

We have loved POR. Have stayed in AB and the Mansion section. I got AB before I knew about room requests. When I say the area, I have to say that I was somewhat dissappointed. However, I loved it. I think the interiors are a little too rustic. But, nothing I couldn't live with. I just loved the landscaping and the morning walk for coffee. When we made reservations for the next visit, I requested the Mansions, specifically Magnolia Terrace. The furnishings were very nice. Kind of formal. And the gardens were beautiful as well. But, I still think that the atmosphere is better in AB. So, go...don't worry about where you end up. If you get the Mansions, then terrific. But, if you get AB, you may find you have a new favorite!!
