Okay, just how bad are the no-see ums at Vero?

Hi all.

We leave Saturday for our first trip ever to Vero. I've got the Skin-so-soft bug repellant packed. Just how bad are these pesky no-see ums and are they everywhere or just at the beach?

Thanks.

very - very - bad - had more trouble at the campfire than the beach - we went in Sept.

We had bad problems with them too. It didn't matter where you were as much as the time of day. We liked the deck outside the Green Cabin Room for an after dinner drink, but every night at dusk the no-see-ums would drive us inside. And by the time you realize that they are around, you've already been bit a bunch of times.

The beach didn't seem so bad, but we were on the beach during the day.

Just got back last week and we did not get bit. We were out at night and didn't have any problems.

In May they were bad, particularly around dawn and dusk.. Location did not seem important. I found their bite much worse than a mosquito's. Benydryl helped a lot once bitten.

Thanks for the replies.

Did the bug spray seem to work? Particularly anyone use Avon's Skin so Soft repellant?

Went 3 times to VB with NO problems.

Last October they were AWFUL. The bites itch like you would not believe. I was up in the middle of the night almost in tears from the itch.

We were hesitant about using OFF but you have to. The CM's there say it is the only thing that works against the noseeums.

Avoid the beach at dawn and dusk. Keep your balcony door shut at night.

You may not have any problems. Like I said, we went 3 or 4 times without even seeing them.

I looked like I had the chicken pox and was kind of embarrassed (sp?) around the pool because I was just covered in bites.

Don't worry. Just take precautions and you should be fine.

They are at WDW too so I would wear repellant at night if I were going outside at the parks.

What are noseeums? I've never heard of them. Are you talking about sand fleas?

no see ums are a member of the mosquito family-or so we were told by the CM's at VB.

VB has a little write up about them in the flyer they hand out to you at check-in.

I believe they are really called "biting midges" or something like that.
