Floridaminnie wanted to know abouts where I live....
About 51 road miles north of Anchorage near a community of Houston or about the largest town of roughly 4000 people called Wasilla just south of me. Inbetween the two.
And its -25 right now and tomorrow we a severe wind warning of 80mph in the forecast, possibly a Chinook (warm wind) that comes trough occasionally, blows all the snow away and we have had a LOT of that, its at least 3' deep around my house, has already collapsed my carport and damaged one of my travel trailers before I could shovel it off. I know absolutely nothing about the cruise ships, they operate a long ways south of me and Alaska is more than twice the size of Texas. If you were to do anything of the tourism sort I reccomend the Princess Cruis Denali Explorer Train Excursion, it departs from Anchorage travels through Wasilla and then north to Talkeetna where there is other tours into Denali park, its a must see!! Then the train continues on to Fairbanks, spend the night there and return, its wonderful scenery especially in the summer where the daylight is over 22 hours. Try king salmon fishing, or a halibut charter, go on a tour boat to see the Kenai Fjords or the glacier cruises.
But sitting on a cruise ship cannot allow a person to see the wondrous unspoiled beauty that the Alaska interior has to offer, I've seen only a fraction of it, but then I'ved lived here 12 years, its almost impossible to get me to leave!
Except when its -50, my water pipes freeze, trucks at work won't start and there is just a few hours of dim sunlight during the day.
And thats when I take off for Orlando!... like in about 6 more days!
