Thirty hours...sheesh! At DS's former school, if you didn't get your hours in, they charged an additional $1,000. At his school now, it's pretty much required if you want the reduced rate tuition. You pay more without the hours. However, the last time I volunteered, I heard one lady saying there were people who didn't have any hours in at all last year and apparently nothing was done. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...wonder if they may have been charged the higher rate this year and she just doesn't know it.Originally posted by legs22
My dd's school requires 30 hoursThe first year I really tried but was only able to do half. The school didn't say anything. So the next year, I did nothing. Zero, zip, nada. The school never said anything. So, this year, again, I have zero hours logged in. Most all the volunteer hours are during school when I work. And if it's something after hours like the dinner/auction.....what am I supposed to do? Pay for a sitter so I can volunteer for free for the school? Sorry, but this whole volunteer thing drives me nuts!
When I had an evening thing that I couldn't take DS to, I was lucky enough to manage to have him stay over a friend's house that evening. It worked! I agree though...I'm not about to hire a sitter to get my hours in. We'll see how it goes this year. They had a fair of some kind this past weekend. I was supposed to be working 10-12 at something. When I got there, the guy at the table said they already had everything manned. Ack! I couldn't find the class mom that I talked to about it on the phone, so I left. Thought that was pretty lousy assigning people if they happened to be early for their time slots!
