Okay...I've Called the Late Night DISers, Now I'm Calling the Single DISers (Part 2)

My dd's school requires 30 hours:earseek: The first year I really tried but was only able to do half. The school didn't say anything. So the next year, I did nothing. Zero, zip, nada. The school never said anything. So, this year, again, I have zero hours logged in. Most all the volunteer hours are during school when I work. And if it's something after hours like the dinner/auction.....what am I supposed to do? Pay for a sitter so I can volunteer for free for the school? Sorry, but this whole volunteer thing drives me nuts!
Thirty hours...sheesh! At DS's former school, if you didn't get your hours in, they charged an additional $1,000. At his school now, it's pretty much required if you want the reduced rate tuition. You pay more without the hours. However, the last time I volunteered, I heard one lady saying there were people who didn't have any hours in at all last year and apparently nothing was done. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...wonder if they may have been charged the higher rate this year and she just doesn't know it.

When I had an evening thing that I couldn't take DS to, I was lucky enough to manage to have him stay over a friend's house that evening. It worked! I agree though...I'm not about to hire a sitter to get my hours in. We'll see how it goes this year. They had a fair of some kind this past weekend. I was supposed to be working 10-12 at something. When I got there, the guy at the table said they already had everything manned. Ack! I couldn't find the class mom that I talked to about it on the phone, so I left. Thought that was pretty lousy assigning people if they happened to be early for their time slots! Think I should charge them that 2 hours for the aggravation and the running around for the baked goods.

Sorry about the lonliness, Legs. :( The previous weekend was very tough for me. This weekend was better with keeping busy all of Saturday. But Sunday nights are always a killer. I agree...a good friend would be wonderful! That used to be my sister, the one who died of course. We used to spend a lot of time together just going for coffee and shooting the breeze. I sure miss those days and her. Either that or we would spend hours playing board games and drinking coffee at her place since at the time I was still single and with my parents. Even after I got married, DH and I would go visit her and do the same thing. Life has changed way too much! And I'm still not happy about it!! Right now if I had a permanent job to help distract from it, I think it would be wonderful!! It just seems more difficult to find that social outlet the older I get. Ack!

TigerBear...Glad Harley was happy to go with him! So sorry for your tears. :( I'm sure it was difficult to do. Pups are definitely family members. That must have been something with your DBF and Mr. Tramp! So glad DBF was able to get him back. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/11/11_5_2.gif' alt='Kiss The Dog' border=0></a>

(((Hugs))) Sandy - I can tell how very much you miss your sister. :( It sounds like the two of you made a lot of wonderful memories together.

Your last smilie truly had me LOL!

PW- Sorry to hear about your sister. I didn't realize that one of your sisters had died:(
Have you gotten together with your other sister since you moved to VA?
I think that's when I feel the best and most like myself is when I am around my sister. That's why I think it would be good to move closer to my family. Even though the thought of moving and uprooting my life scares me:scared1: The thought of leaving a secure, comfortable job and being homeless gives me great anxiety.

Since there is no tuition at dd's school, I don't have to worry about what they charge me!

TB- I had the same thing happen to me only it wasn't a dog, it was my dd when she was about 3. I would call her Forest Gump. You know the part in the movie where he runs and runs......that's my dd.
I didn't realize that Match had a friends option. Can it be same sex friends?

My ankle (the one I twisted last week) was really bothering me today and tonight it is really swelled up :(

My interview is on Thurs.:D But I didn't tell my coworker yet!

Hi everyone.

TB-We had a dog that did the same thing...everytime she smelled freedom she was long gone. Once I followed her all over the neighborhood...barefoot (didn't have time to get shoes on) and with a hotdog...just as I would get close to her she'd run...we finally made it to a park and I talked this kid into coaxing her to him and to hold her and then I could get her....that was one of many itmes! I hope that Harley will be happy in Colorado!

PW-So sorry to hear about you sister. One of my best friends lost her sister whom I was close to as well...2 years ago in a car accident...it was a horrible time and we still miss her dearly. Hugs to you! A job will help....keep positive it will happen!

We are supposed to volunteer at my dd's school as well and I usually mark the boxes for food because that is all that I have time for is to send cookies and things...but I am not called very often, maybe once a year which is fine with me! 30 hours is a lot of time! My sister's kids are in a charter school and I know she seems to live at that school...volunteering is required there too.
Last year I had to help with the concession stand during DD's basketball games and it was hard seeing all the parents...mom and dad together....I really dreaded having to go to the school and I still do! It's such a family....couple thing usually depresses me.

Hang in there everyone...I totally understand the 'lonlies' lately but it is partly my own fault as well because I do have a couple of very good girlfriends who I can do things with but I have become such a hermit...I did go out for drinks with a coworker last Friday...but other than that I just want to come home put my pink flannel Minnie jammies on and watch mindless TV! This past weekend was not a good one...it seemed I was on the verge of tears the entire time. I know I should keep busy...go out with friends....see my sister and family...but my heart just isn't in it right now. I don't want to miss a call from DBF because now that he is in Takrit he isn't able to call as often as when he was in Baghdad. He had a cell phone in Baghdad and I could call him as well as he could me whenever we wanted to...now it's been two days since we've talked...we did get to IM for a short while this morning but it just seemed to make me sadder. It's not even near that time of the month either! I think it would be easier if it wasn't so dangerous over there right now. Seems that every day there are so many people killed by roadside bombs...suicide bombs...etc.

Oh well enough of that! I am watching Monday night football...my Denver Broncos are playing and loosing! Talk about mindless TV!

I hope everyone had a great day!

Thanks, TigerBear and Legs! :) That was my oldest sister, Vicki, who was my buddy. Sheesh...we could do anything and have a good time. We'd either go bowling, see a movie, just diner hop for coffee, window shop at the mall, go food shopping at midnight. That was great! Talk about empty stores! :) And I never seemed to get home before 2 a.m. We just ALWAYS had things to talk about! So sad...she died of renal failure as a complication of diabetes at 36. :( That's now 15 years ago. :(

My sister in Northern VA is Trish. Amazingly, no I haven't seen her yet. LOLOL! That reminds me...I should probably call her and see what she has going on during the holidays and when they'll be around. We REALLY need to go see them! They visited us a couple times when we lived in FL. I haven't taken Richard to visit them yet. When I'm around her (the middle child) I always find I'm falling into the "little sister" role. Ack! Even after all these years. She's always been very independent and isn't the buddy type. Our relationship is more like... :scratchin ...business associates! That's just the way she is. :)

Have to agree with you Legs, major changes like job changes and moving are stressful. But they're also exciting!! I remember how stressed I felt when my home in FL was officially "sold," but I had no clue where I would be living. :scared1: But it all works out!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa for the interview on Thursday!! Sorry about the ankle. Will elevating it and using an ice pack help? Or are you ready for a doctor's visit?

TigerBear...glad you liked the <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/11/11_5_2.gif' alt='Kiss The Dog' border=0></a>

:teeth:

 Hugs, Vicki! Sorry for the loss of your friend and also for missing DBF. It's very difficult, I'm sure.

Your talk of running into couples at things reminded me that when DS and I were in the food store this weekend, I turned to him and said that if I ran into one more "couple" in there, I was ready to scream. Sometimes you just can't seem to get away from it! And I swear every other female must have been pregnant! That's another thing that can get me going. Not so often the last few years, thank goodness. But I noticed it this weekend.

Well, did you enjoy the football game? :)

I got some news today that made me very :sad1: . My ex took Harley up a mountain on Friday and a storm came in (he also had his roomates pup with him). He got lost & both dogs freaked because of the weather. He basically ended up dragging both of them down the mountain. He got back down an hour after it was dark. The worst part? Somehow they both got into porcupine quills. Harley had 30 quills in her face - including one that went through her tongue and jaw. :( He took them to the vet but I can't even imagine the pain she must have been in. Poor girl. I guess she really is experiencing the mountains! Here's to hoping he will be more careful next time.

Oh my gosh! How awful, TB! :sad1: I'm sorry for both pups, especially Harley. Thank goodness your ex took them to the vet. I hope they are back to themselves soon. I'm sure they've learned to stay away from wild animals now. And the poor things with the thunderstorm. Hope the ex learned something. Hugs for you!

On a good note...your new picture is GREAT!! :)

Poor Harley:(
:hug:TB
I know that must have been hard to hear, especially since you just gave him to your ex.

Thank y'all. I am trying not to worry about her - I know my worrying won't help.

CM, how are things with you? Have you heard lately from your DBF.

Legs, how is you ankle?

I finally got some good news today. I am getting a raise! :D A 25% raise!! :teeth: I wouldn't be able to make the monthly payment on my student loans without it. :o

Thanks. I like it except my for eyes being half shut. It was taken the day Mr. Tramp tried to be Forest Gump. ;)

I never would have known about the eyes if you didn't mention it. They look fine to me! :)

Mr. Tramp and Forest Gump? LOLOLOL!

Congrats on the wonderful raise!!!! Woooooooo hoooooooo!! I need to get back to the job hunt myself. Ugh! What a nightmare.

TB-Thanks for asking...I usually get to talk to him for a short while everyday...and we can IM while he's at work...my only salvation is being able to communicate with him. He's fine....he will be back in Baghdad in 2 weeks and then home 2 weeks after that for 2 weeks...it's only been a month tomorrow! Seems like a lot longer! I am excited for him to come home but also not looking forward to having to say bye when he leaves because now I know how it is when he is gone....

Great news about your raise! And I am so sorry for Harley...the weather here can change so quickly! One minute it is 70 degrees and sunny and the next it is snowing...especially in the mountians.

Hope everyone has had a good week and I hope you have some fun things planned for the weekend.

Take care,

V.

I had my interview yesterday. Went really well:D

Some highlights-
He asked what my current salary was. I told him. I was also going to add that I know I will need to take a big salary drop to move there. Every job I've interviewed for has paid significantly less than I make now. Thank goodness I kept my mouth shut because he said......"we can compete with that"

He asked if I had time to take a drive to see the other office. We did......in his new convertible corvette! I even got to see the smokestacks of the Magic or Wonder in the distance. Then we drove back along the beach.

He bought me a coffee and then lunch.

Now, normally things like this don't ever, ever happen on the interviews that I go on. This job sounds like a dream. And I'm really excited about it.

He still has to interview one more person and should know more next week. He does want me to come back next week and meet the other people I may work with.

Legs-Wow! Good luck! Sounds great....also I've never had an interview like that...is he single? LOL!

Thank goodness it is Friday. I don't know about all of you but I am so ready for the weekend. Seems like the weeks have gotten really long...but then the weekends are kind of lonely too...guess I might be kind of hard to please right now!

Just talked with DBF and he is doing well except he was woken up by two mortar rounds this morning (or rather his morning, he is 9 hours ahead of me...kind of hard to get used to)...he said they hit about 600 yards from him...that is way too close I said...he said not that close! Easy for him to say!

TB-Any news about how Harley is fairing from the quills?

Have a great weekend everyone! Happy Halloween! Be safe trick or treating!

Hope all continues to go well with your DBF, Vicki! I had an e-mail from a friend and former coworker about her brother-in-law today..."Please keep Mark’s brother Matt in your prayers. He called us last night from Texas and he is on his way back to Iraq today. Hopefully he will be back in March to stay but please pray that he stays safe until he gets back once again. Thanks."

I forget with branch of the military Matt is in. I think it's Army. When he first had to go to Iraq, it pushed he and his girlfriend to get married beforehand! :)

Weekends are getting lonely, Vicki? Sorry about that. I'm at the point where I really can't stand them any more. And that two weeks working spoiled me! I really don't like being home during the week either, but for some reason work days are easier for me. Weekends are horrible. I just got home about 1/2 hour ago after being out ALL day! I had a meeting with DS's teacher at 9:40 this morning. From there I volunteered at DS's school for 5 1/2 hours with their fund raiser, got home and took DS out until now. Geez...last night I even asked two friends to say a prayer that the right guy comes along soon because I really can't stand it!! :( One of them said she prays that one every day. :) It's difficult to be around couples even while shopping. Ack! And then while working on the fund raiser today, of course I was thinking of how I was around all females. A lot of good that does. I definitely miss sharing life with someone. :( :sad1:

Hey, Legs!! That's GREAT!! What an interview! :teeth: I'll echo Vicki...is he single? :) Crossing everything that the job is yours!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I think he is divorced.

PW- Right now I am feeling the opposite of you. I just love being single right now. I don't need or want a man.
Had a girls night out tonight at a great italian place. The waiter was sooooooo cute. 32 years old. He looked like Val Kilmer in Top Gun. He was in the Navy too but not a pilot. He made dinner very enjoyable. Lots of eye contact and smiles :D

Vicki- I don't think you're that old but I think you will have grey hairs before this is all over!

I think my brother left Afghanistan and is on his way back to Ft. Bragg:D
