I'm ready to book.

for you seasoned WDW travelers- my question- WHICH resort out of these 2-

Animal Kingdom Lodge

or

Wilderness Lodge

Please give me the pro's/cons to each resort, and why you'd choose one over the other.

Trip is for november 27- dec 3--2005.....going with the dream maker gold package..

DH, Myself, and 2 DD's will be 8 & 9 on trip
No off-site stuff- DTD, and the parks- thats it
We'll be doing the recreation offerings- boats, bikes etc.. as we have the gold package.

last time- in April- we spent 3 of our 5 days IN the parks all day/night. 2 of them we went back to hotel to relax by the pool....I'm about game for either way- the kids did fine with both ways..

If we go AKL- we will NOT do a savannah view- so seeing animals from our balcony- isnt a big deal- we wont be hangin out in our room...

we will be using chidlcare- since thats part of the package as well, when DH and I go to DTD at night etc.

Depends on a number of factors:

* How many travelers?
* Ages?
* Where will you spend most of your time- which parks?
* What kind of outside-the-parks activities interest you? Food, shopping, relaxing, etc...

You will get many different responses to this, but here is my take.

The AKL is a wonderful resort, very unique in design and theming. The one con is that it is far away from the parks (except the AK).

The WL is close to MK and also has wonderful theming.

Part of the choice is where will you spend most of the day? If you spend it at MK, and want to take a break in the afternoon, then being close is a big plus.

The other part of the decision is which theme appeals more to you. The North Western Wilderness or the African / Animal theme.

Of course there is no other resort where you can watch the animals from your room. So if this is something that interests you, then AKL is the way to go.

My favorite Resort at WDW is The Wilderness Lodge and Villas @ Wilderness Lodge, when you walk into the magnificent Lobby with the giant log beams and the Northwester decor you feel like your in a Cathedral, yet you also feel like you have just arrived home to a cozy cabin. The plump sofa, oversized chairs, and rockers next to the fireplace, make you feel welcomed. Next add the beautiful view out over Silver Creek with the waterfall and Fire Rock Geyser to Bay Lake. It is a sensual overload and one that I enjoy with each and every visit. The feeling is Welcome Home.

Add to the above...a pleasure of seeing the Lodge decorated for Christmas (one of the best on property) Though I love the AKL, for me there isn't even an option of staying anywhere else, at Christmas.

If seeing animals is not a priority, and recreation is, then definitely go with the Wilderness Lodge - take the boats onto Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon, ride bikes or surreys over to Ft Wilderness, my son loves their pool slide, you will not be far from the Grand Floridian Spa if you will be doing any Spa treatments.....can't wait to go back!!!

with the gold package, definitely WL. I think you would probably be wasting your recreation options at the AKL - no boats to rent, no bike paths, etc. AKL is great- but the attraction is the animals, and lobby, not the grounds.

If you don't care about seeing the animals, AKL loses most of it's appeal. I'd go with WL in this case. It's a relaxing boat ride away from the MK and the recreational opportunities are fabulous. Have a great time, whatever you decide.
