Okay, I'm an idiot... (recording PPV)

It has been years since I've bought PPV movies. I was curious as to whether you can record PPV off of Direct TV onto DVDs for personal viewing (ie. kids movies). I just had to pay late fees for a video rental because my kids kept forgetting to watch it, so PPV is looking better and better.

Not sure. I do know that we have DVR with Adelphia and we can NOT record on the DVR any PPV stuff. But I'm not sure with your own DVD recorder if could or not. May be encrypted to not record.

I'm not sure about movies, but when we order a boxing match, we are given the option to record onto our DVR. (I have Direct TV).

We have recorded them with out VCR in the past with no problem. Sorry no DVR here.

I record them with Tivo and burn the dvds. I have to be there when it records though, to buy the PPV, it won't do it by itself. Meaning, I can't just set the Tivo to record it, I have to do it manually.

This is a DVD recorder, not a Tivo system that records onto a hard drive type thing. DOn't know if that makes a difference. I would want to make a DVD for my DD to take on a bus trip.

My Tivo is a DVD recorder and burner--it records onto a hard drive (like "regular" Tivos) and then I can burn DVDs too. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I know not all Tivos have DVD recording/burning capability. Mine is a DVD recorder/burner as well as a Tivo. I think it must be pretty much the same as your Direct Tv recorder/burner.

Keep in mind, though, that the laws, and therefore the technology, is different if the broadcast is HD.
