Okay, I admit it! I am a DVC snob

I am absolutely a snob, in fact I've converted every one in my family. It's getting hard for us to go back to a regular hotel room let alone the value resorts. I'm glad Disney offers a variety of accommodations (after all variety is the spice of life) but for this gal, I can't go back.

Us too and we have also converted the kids. Until recently DD7 thought all hotel rooms came with two bedrooms and a kitchen. DH and I had a long weekend together in Atlanta at a nice hotel and the first words out of his mouth when we got in the room were “It is ok, but it isn’t like OKW”.
We are leaving in two weeks for a trip with friends to the “dark side” a/k/a Universal and are staying at Hard Rock Hotel. I’ve heard it is nice, but I’m sure we will be unfairly comparing it to our Disney home, and we will certainly miss the jetted tub, balcony and all of that space. It is amazing how quickly you become spoiled.

We have also done the 1 night at a value before switching. Not thinking of doing it again so much.

Talk about bad... we always get a 2BR... last May decided to run down for a long weekend for Star Wars Weekend... being that I have the grubbies when it comes to my points (yes, I said MY points. Not DH's. Not our family's. MINE ) I figured it's only a couple nights... let's just get a studio. We always stayed deluxe prior to DVC & the studios are the same size as them basically right? so no problem right? You'd think wouldn't you?

Well, DS's missed having their own beds & room but we really just happy to be there (although they got a few zingers in from time to time). DH made me promise never again. He'd consider a 1BR for a weekend but that was as "low" as he'd go. Cracked me up. Particularly since we call him the "Closet Mickey lover".

Actually it's great for me - justifying another add on will be a piece of cake!

You could also hear the toilet flushing all around and that is not all throught the bathroom walls.

This is one reason why we will skip the Value resorts every time if we can. We had the same experience at ASMo.

Funny to some, but we love Ft Wilderness and would rather camp to get a low rate than stay at a value again, and if our ROFR passes, we will split our camping trips with DVC stays!

We are not DVC snobs *yet*!

My yongest DS still clamors for the ***, poor unfortunate child has never gotten his choice of sleeping in the Toy Story bldg but, we've had the pleasure of the Mighty ducks bldg - along with tons of mini-cheerleaders, guess he'll be scared for life.

Although I've sprung for weekends on points - it greatly disturbs my frugal nature.

Definitely not a DVC snob. Just FRUGAL with my points. DD23 and I will end her college graduation trip at Pop (her choice -- offered moderates as well) and GASP! we even stay off-site on weekends to preserve our precious points. DH is far too fond of saying "It's only a place to sleep and shower." I do love the W/D in the 1 bedrooms and hot tubs wherever they may be, but Jamuary will be my 4th trip to Pop.

Before we became DVC owners, we stayed at the Corribean Beach and Dixie landings... I don't think either of these were deluxe accomodations, but we have great memories of those stays. Have a great trip.

I would guess that we all work hard for the privilege of owning DVC, so I think we have a right to be a little snobbish about it.

If you want to be a snob fine, but maybe you should reconsider that choice of word given the definition:

A snob, guilty of snobbery, is a person that adopts the world-view that other people are inherently inferior for any one of a variety of reasons including supposed intellect, wealth, education, ancestry, etc. A snob imitates the manners, adopts the world-view and affects the lifestyle of a social class of people to which he either belongs or aspires. That "right" is not necessarily a birth-right: a Pseudo-intellectual is a type of snob.

I knew it.

Many are and few will admit it. I think most of us are to one degree or another. Some will dance around the issue but the truth is we have good taste and want great things.

No dancing here; I admit it without a problem. My "degree" is a moderate or better, but would prefer a DVC resort.

Like OKWMom's kids, our DD (16) is heading down the same road...we went to DL at the end of July and while I was organizing some other things I handed her our reservation paperwork to hold. Since we stayed on points, at the GCH it was printed on DVC stationary. She got all excited and said "They have villas here?!" I said "No honey, we have a regular room."

Her face fell and she just said "Oh. Well, that's okay."

BTW, the GCH was gorgeous and we felt it was totally worth the points.

Of course, I prefer the DVC Resorts (or even the Polynesian) but I've noticed that my grandchildren 6 and 4 are happy just to be at WDW and the resort really does not matter to them.

Sometimes we will stay at one of the values for the first one or two days before moving on to DVC because they really love them! And of course, if we arrive on a weekend, it just saves that many more points to use on another trip.

My daughter recently stayed in a cabin for part of her trip and the kids absolutely loved it and the riding in the golf cart. It makes me think that I even want to try the "camping" route when I get my mother's motorhome by the end of this year---that too would be an adventure for them.

I say while they are young, and it really doesn't matter that much to them, make use of the values, etc. Just try to avoid those weeks when high school groups, etc. are scheduled.

The first time I went to Disney was 4 years ago. My Boy friend took me. We stayed at the As Sports. OMG I so fell in love with Disney and my love for boy friend well Disney just made it Magical. He ask me to marry him while at dinner in the castle. We are DVC members now. We live in FL. and go to Disney about 4 times per yer . 7 hours away. We would not get to go as often if we just used our points. When we stay at the values I always remember our first time and can not helap but enjoy every seacond at the value resorts.
