Okay have AKL standard, any requests to ask for?

I also booked the standard parking lot view (least expensive). Is that what you're talking about? From what I've heard these rooms are in the Giraffe and Ostrich Trails. AKL Map I would love to hear what other people think as I haven't been able to find many people who have stayed in the parking lot view rooms.

I booked a standard room and got the Giraffe and ostrich trail. It was an ok view, certainly better than I expected but would not have been pleased had I paid for a better view.

Really, there are so many different vantage points in the hotel that you'll enjoy going to different spots to view. At 5pm I did enjoy watching four beautiful giraffes munch just outside my room. It would have been perfect if the lady with the Long Island accent had only talked on her cell phone INSIDE her room and NOT on the balcony where half the building could hear her.

Enjoy, I had a great stay there!

Hey, we don't have an accent!!! ;)

Griswalds...when are you going? I bet you will get a comp upgrade. There are very few standard views at AKL...they upgrade always, unless the resort is full.

ok-we booked a standard room and we had a view of a rooftop (which was Mara below us) and in the distance over the rooftop you could slightly see the pool and beyond that if you squinted really hard you could see a couple of animals on savannah. It was a very nice room and quiet, and not a parking lot view. Hope this helps a bit. We were glad to not have a parking lot to look at! ;)

We'll be at AKL feb 2-Feb 7 th 2006. Definately value season, so I'm way hoping to get some kind of upgrade! Maybe instead of the parking lot view we'll get a lovely view of the backside of a tree. As long as it's not a view of mousekeeping, I'll be happy

My only concern would be there are a few rooms on the bottom floor that literally sit on the sidewalk to the bus depot. As we would stream by to the buses, the poor folks sitting on their "balcony" reading the paper were close enough for us to touch. I would not want those rooms.

ps Have had savanna (comp upgrade from standard) and a pool view. I would never pay extra for pool view again, and only savanna if it were very reasonable. Just too many places to enjoy the animals in the hotel.

pss I do believe a standard/standard view will only be on the front face of the hotel. It is the standard/pool view that would have looked at Mara's roof as it is inside the pool courtyard area. There are standard and deluxe rooms in the pool and savanna area, has to do with which floor and size/day bed.

Just an FYI, AKL has really bad cell service, and you often HAVE to talk outside to get a signal. The problem is that some people think that they need to yell loud enough for the person they are talking to many miles away to hear them...without the phone.

I totally agree with you.

Something else to consider...

On the other side of the front entrance, there is a 30 minute parking area. I would not want a room over there either (especially ground floor). Just because there are cars constantly in and out of that area. It seemed noisy and crowded with cars and foot traffic all the time.

I think if you ask for an upper floor room further down either of the trails you will escape most of the congestion surrounding the front entrance.

Other than those rooms immediately in the vicinity of the entrance, I think a std. view room would be fine.

Good Luck and enjoy the AKL!!!! :goodvibes

Is there a view of anything? Can I be closer to anything? What do you recommed for us poor Standard Room folk?

I know you're hoping for an upgrade... ;)
Honestly, I wouldn't request anything on the standard room... just see if you get some pixie dust at check in. :wizard:And if you do end up getting the standard room you paid for, know that it is a beautiful resort to explore! We loved it there! :Pinkbounc

Stay away from the Giraffe trail if you can. While some of the rooms are OK, some of the lower level rooms have balcony's that are right above the bus loading area. You can't open your balcony door without hearing the bus noise.

Ask for the Ostrich trail.

If you want an upgrade, I wouldn't request a specific trail. To avoid those lower rooms, just ask for "not on the ground floor."
