Some of you may have read the thread about how we are in the midst of planning our summer vacation and many of you have given us good advice on our choices (Branson, Williamsburg, Hilton Head, or Gatlinburg) so far.

You may also have read that I don't have a snowball's chance in you-know-where, of convincing my DH to go back to WDW anytime soon. Meaning anytime in the next 3-5 yrs. :(

But then I started thinking (first mistake) that maybe we could go to Florida but not to Disney. Has that ever been done? :teeth: ;)

So that's where I need your advice. What other locales in FL make nice destination spots? Nothing below Orlando please. (Too far of a drive)

AND realistically what can we expect weather wise in the latter part of June?

Thanks all you great Floridians!! :sunny:

Hmmm - Nothing below Orlando?

Well, that limits it - but St Augustine is gorgeous, Panama City, Daytona Beach.

I will keep thinking...

Another vote for Old St. Augustine.

Also, Destin and Fort Walton Beach are suppossed to be nice - I have never been.

If my DH made it clear he didn't want to do Disney for a couple years, why oh why would you choose Florida for a vacation? My DH would be so skeptical of me the whole trip that either of us would enjoy it. Take a break from Florida, how about Savanah GA?

Well, we are getting a timeshare for the week from my Grandma so we have to go places where the timeshares are plentiful and I thought FL would fit that description.

I have never been to Savannah, GA? Is it a good family spot?

I know your DH said no more Disney, but would that also pertain to UNIVERSAL? :confused3

Very hot (high 90's and feeling hotter with the heat index) and humid weather. Make sure you vacation somewhere near the beach.

St Augustine!! A GREAT family vacation--lots of stuff to do--beach, the alligator farm, the fort, the lighthouse, ghost tours, boat rides, jet ski rentals, great restaurants, great shopping, and a beautiful, historic town.

Much as I love Savannah, I think it would be boring for kids.

Another vote for St. Augustine. I only got to spend a day there but what a beautiful place!

What about Vero Beach...DVC has a beautiful Resort there, Or a Cruise?

Yuck, I was afraid of that. :sunny:

:teeth: Ah ha, there's a thought. ;)

I'm no longer a Floridian, but I lived in St Augustine for a few years, so I have to agree with the posters who picked it :)

Great city to visit with a family, and FANTASTIC food! ::yes::

On the Gulf Coast (Panhandle area), there's St. George Island, often rated among the world's best beaches. Half the island is a state park and undeveloped. Appalachicola (sp?) is just across the bay. Some interesting shopping. Shrimping houses cook up fresh-off-the-boat shrimp feasts.

We're flying to Orlando the 2nd week in June and are planning on enjoing the "other" places, too. We plan on visiting one of the beaches, doing an airboat ride and maybe going to Sea World. :)

We are fitting in Disney, tho for half the vacation!! :bounce:

Another vote for St. Augustine!

How about Myrtle Beach? not Florida but beautiful just the same and they should have time shares as well.
If you have your heart set on Florida..I also vote for St Augustine

A vote for St. Augustine! We were there this past summer and there was so much to do!
