My daughter always loved getting non-candy things. One year when we first moved down to AL (from NJ), she went out and a man who just arrived home from a trip was so sad he forgot about Halloween night. He told her and DH(ex) to hold on, and came out with two huge full size cans of Pringles!
DD came running through the door, I love Alabama!!!!!!!!1
This thread is interesting, because a few nights ago Food Network had a special Halloween version of "Unwrapped," and said the results of a poll showed that the treats kids hated most were: 1) fruit and 2) salty snacks (like chips)!
I know that you already won but I still want to chime in. I say candy. I gave out Little Debbie Snack cakes one year and they were not a hit. No more non candy in my house after that
Glad you won, though I just asked my DD and she said, "No one wants chips on Halloween...except maybe Daddy."
I would have guessed that she would have liked the chips, since on a normal day, she would pick chips before candy. She said they would take up too much space in her bag that would be better used by more candy and that she doesn't get candy as often as chips, so it is more special.
I've known several small children (~4-5 years old) that did not like chocolate. The "good" candy that most reference is chocolate and they didn't eat any of it.
Of course I am no expert as in my totally ignorant youth I actually gave out RAISINS. How gross. Cannot believe that I did that. I was trying not to buy any candy that I would eat (big problem for me back then). Plus those little boxes back then were not sealed. I'm sure every parent tossed them in the trash. Stupid, stupid, stupid on my part. What was I thinking??
Then there was the year I lived in a really, really nice neighborhood. My neighbors told me that kids from all over the city were bussed in there so be sure to buy lots of candy. I bought bags and bags of Skittles (since I hate them). I swear I barely gave one bag away. It took forever to get rid of those things. I was in the very last block of University Park (if any of you know Dallas) so I guess the kids decided to skip our block.
I vote chips. I think 98% of people get candy the occasional; chip bag would be nice. Like someone mentioned in another thread then I can throw them in the lunch the next day.
