OK... which Olympic sport do you think shouldn't be there

The syncronized diving is a little strange. Still, you gotta appreciate the level of talent that goes into it.

I wish beach volleyball had been around when I was young enough to have tried to play competitively. I used to have a job where I played beach volleyball day in and day out for Club Med. I doubt I would have been good enough to make it to Olympic levels, but it would have been cool to try.

Bridge is being considered for the 2006 winter games. It was a demonstration sport at Salt Lake City in 2002. Demos usually make it into the next games.

Bridge

Yep it was a demo sport that was EMPTY! LOL I had a friend who was one of the "volunteers" at that "sport" and she laughed because only about 30 people showed up and they were all friends, family or competitors she said!

I thought synchronized diving had been around for a while. I think it's an amazing event. Two hugely talented divers on each team. I find it easier to "judge" because while I know next to nothing about diving, I like to compare the two.

In general, I enjoy the individual sports more than the team sports. For some reason I like the idea of singling out one winner.

modern equestrian (the horse does all the work???)
...BADMITTON???Is that a sport???

Especially the dressage' part that was on this morning. The dude from New Zealand was just walking the horse around the ring stopping, then going backward. arrrggghhh!

Badmitton? what, that's in the games. Maybe should add horseshoes or cornhole for the next olympics.

Wasn't there some kind of thing in the winter olympics with guys using brooms on ice with a ball or something like that...that was really lame!

ping pong as a sport does crack me up but rumors are big on ballroom dancing becoming a Olympic sport(now that would actually be cool)

Hey don't knock beach volleyball until you've tried it -- it's difficult. Those athletes are definately in shape and put in a lot of hours of training to make it look as easy as it does.

That Misty (or Missy) May was incrediable.

My problem with beach volleyball is that the women are outfitted in bikinis while the men have shorts & tee shirts on. Just a little sexist!

I LOVE the Olympics. Call me sappy but I love hearing the stories behind the athletes and I've even been known to tear up.

Let the games continue....

Curling, what will those crazy Canadians think of next?:p

1) Synchronized _____________(fill in the blank). From my perspective, these are performers who can't "get it done" on the solo scene.

2) Professional athletes in the Olympics. To me, it completely takes away from these games.

I'm different I guess because I really don't mind anything being in the Olympics. I just ignore those sports that I don't really like (and I kind of like beach volleyball :) ).

DH watches poker on TV a lot and I've heard that those shows are popular. Could Poker be another Olympic sport? ;)

now that would be funny to see, poker in the Olympics but then my sister wants NASCAR in the games :)

Tennis, has no place at the Olympics

Count me as one who doesn't like the professional athletes there either. Much better when it was all amateurs.

I don't want to take away anyone's glory in their sport, but I was surprised to see Badmitton in the events!

Well -- the Scots invented the game -- but I like to think that Canadians have certainly perfected the game of curling.

I used to look down on curlers until I joined a curling league and discovered the amount of exercise, strategy and effort that goes into this sport. I estimated that I sweep the equivalent distance of 1 mile during 1 game. Sports medicine folks did a study of curling and discovered that one burns more calories, minute for minute than in a game of volleyball.

And besides -- if you can stand on ice wearing shoes coated in teflon, then you're worthy of a gold medal.

They need to get rid of all the pointless "sports" and make room for more men's swimming. ;)
