You were absolutely NOT wrong. I don't believe in splitting the check evenly in any situation anyway as different people order things that cost different amounts. But, I ESPECIALLY don't agree with it when it causes someone to pay for expensive alcohol that they didn't even drink!

THEY were the rude ones to expect you to pay for their booze.

I always split the bill by the number of people eating (we don't itemize per person) but I probably would have been annoyed in this particular situation.

No they didn't end up splitting the bill evenly I don't think.

I am adamantly against splitting the bill evenly, especially at nice restaurants because I usually try to order something cheap so that I can even afford to go. Kinda defeats the purpose if I end up having to pay for other people's expensive items.

Btw, I am all about splitting the check however people decide, but to be stuck with someone else's liquor bill is totally unfair. OP, I feel your pain!!
