For our 1st night I want to eat a small meal and
maybe have a dessert. It will just be myself and
my grandson. We are doing EE the next morn and I
don't want to eat very much before calling it an
early evening. I have never ordered off the child's menu for myself. Is this acceptable, or
would it be better to order 1 adult meal and
share? plus dessert
Anyone done it either way? Your ideas please. TIA

Officially, children's meals are only for children up to 11 years old. And, even if you were allowed to order a children's meal, would you really want a hot dog or chicken strips at a fine WDW restaurant?

I would ask your server for his/her suggestion. How about an appetizer and desert? Or a salad and desert? And it's quite possible your server would have another idea for a light meal.

Mustangdi, I have personally never ordered from the children's menu at WDW but I have read NUMEROUS posts here at DIS and on other Disney forums where adults do order from the children's menu at WDW and have no problems doing so. Also at Narcoosee's you're in luck. I checked out the menu and they have a couple adult type options like fish, Caesar salad, and a petite filet on the children's menu. Enjoy!

Narcoosee's Childrens Menu:

Mickey Macaroni Chicken Soup - $3.00
Caesar Salad - $3.50
Fresh Fruit Cup - $3.25

Grilled Fish - with mashed potatoes and green beans $8.00
Petite Filet - mashed potatoes and green beans $12.00
Hamburger - with or without cheese and French Fries $6.00
Mickey's Pasta - with marinara or butter and grated cheese $6.00
Chicken Fingers - and french fries $6.00

Chocolate Brownie Sundae $3.95
Nana Split $4.95
Make your Own Smores $4.95

I ordered off of the children's menu at Jiko at AKL. The server did not say anything. We had gotten several appetizers, and I did not see ordering a huge meal off of the adults menu. I was amazed at how much food there was!! (grilled salmon)
It was enough food without our appetizers!

Not at Narcooses, but at a couple other WDW restuarnts I've ordered off the kids menu. I do leave a little extra in the tip though. and compensate the server as if I had ordered an adult entree.

Good point Anne. In fact I meant to mention that in my post but forgot. I can understand that restaurants PREFER for their patrons to order of the adults menu, or several courses so the ticket is higher but truly if an adult is only going to eat a small portion and they are paying the price the restaurant charges for that portion then they aren't "getting away with anything" (not acceptable at buffets of course). But, the the server should be tipped well since they are putting out the same effort that they would for a bigger $$ ticket.

Personally I would feel really self conscious ordering from the kiddie menu at a upscale restaurant like Narcooses.

My advice would be to skip appetizers/salad and just order an entree... maybe share a dessert.

Don't feel self conscious or worry what someone else might think. That's silly. This is YOUR vacation so order what you'd LIKE. There are people who just order appetizers and desserts or split entrees or order off the kid's menu. The $$ still add up. Disney servers see it every day. As long as you tip fairly the server won't care and none of the other guests are going to scrutinize your order unless they are incredibly rude and thus why would you care?
