OK to buy 1 pass to conference but 5 conference discounted DL tix?

hello -

i'm attending 2 workshops at a conference this fall. i need to purchase my exhibit/conference pass today. here's my question:

is it kosher to buy 1 adult pass to the conference (it's an educational conference and my husband and kids are NOT going to want to go, lol), as i am the only one attending workshops and visiting exhibits, but still purchase the discounted park hopper passes for DH and kids, too? even if they are not going to the conference?

my husband will HAAAAAAATE for me to drag him to this conference, lol, and the workshops i'm signing up for only allow 1 person per pass, so i can't take the kids in with me.

so, if i purchase just the 1 adult pass into the conference (which includes the 2 workshops i want to attend), and i purchase 5 park hopper tix at the discounted conference price, is that okay?

the only reason i ask is because there was a recent thread or two about conference park hoppers, and i just want to make sure it's considered "legitimate" to buy 5 park hoppers even though only 1 of us is attending any workshops at the conference.

please help! THANKS!!!

I think it is absolutely fine. They can't expect every member of the family to want to attend a conference and I think that having a conference near a place like Disneyland and offering park hopper tickets they are expecting the conference attendees to bring their families. Go and have fun at the conference while your family has fun in the parks!:goodvibes

thanks for the feedback! i was hoping this was the general opinion.

does anyone out there have any reason or experience to believe that this is NOT the case? i have to purchase my pass by today, so any quick responses would be greatly appreciated, THANK YOU!

Hi, Mugglemama.:goodvibes I am glad you asked the question, and you are right - there have been some other recent threads which were actually promoting the purchase of conference/convention tickets and/or discounted hotel rooms to people on the DISboards who were (possibly) not actually attending the conference and were not members of any group attending the conference. That is, I think, not going to be allowed in the future on the DIS, according to what we have been discussing 'behind the scenes.' Disney frowns upon that and we want to keep a good relationship with them, as they do lurk or visit these boards. We all like a good discount, but if it is obtained in such a way that DLR disagrees with, it will only end up affecting everyone in the long run and it is best to avoid such messes. Sort of like with Park Hoppers - we buy them and if we don't use a day, it would be easy to sell them off and get money for that one day, but DLR doesn't like that so it is considered 'illegal' in Disney terms.

But in your case, I am sure that you are probably allowed to get tickets for family, unless you have seen fine print that indicates otherwise. As the PP said, they (Disney and the conference officials) must assume that the attendees will be bringing family members. But if you are not sure and want to be on the safe side, I would call either DLR or the group which is selling you the tickets and get confirmation. I have a feeling it will be okay, though.:)

Generally conference coordinators KNOW there will be family coming along that will not be at the conference. Some o te "extra activities" offered are intended for family fun. Unless it says somewhere that the DL tickets are intended solely for conference attendees, you are fine.

thanks VERY much for the feedback, Dreams & Sherry! i appreciate it!

it's a homeschooler's event, so like you're saying, it would seem that it would be assumed that we would be bringing our families.

i'm going to call DLR anyway, just to be sure. but it looks like what you're saying makes the most sense. thanks!

ok, so i called DLR and spoke first to somebody at the general guest relations line, who told me that as far as she knew, it was fine to have just one person attending the conference while the whole group used the discounted tix.

i wanted better than the "as far as i know" answer, though, so i asked to be transfered to ticketing. i explained the situation to that person as well, and the best she could give me was, "you should be fine".

ugh.

however, she did explain that the discounted tix were just regular tickets (no special "conference" distinction or anything), it was just a matter of whether or not the organizing group would sell you the tix at the group rate.

i did finally hear back from the people organizing the conference though, and they said "yes, the rest of your group can defininitely have the discounted park hoppers".

so, it sounds like it should be fine. i hope. :confused3

I don't think you need to worry about this at all. I went to the Catholic Educator's Conference in April and we were encouraged to buy twilight tickets for ourselves and parkhoppers for our family going with us. Especially since you said this is a homeschooling event they have to know people will. Be travelling with their families. So just go a d have a great time!
