I didn't go do the Jaws attraction but my DH and sons (8 and 11 at the time) did - they thought it was very intense and yes, quite scary! There are flames around the boat and my 8yo said when he felt the heat from them he was worried that they were real! Perhaps if you read up on it in advance and prepare yourself for the effects it won't be so bad - this is coming from a chicken who wouldn't ride it of course!
I didn't think it was that scary at all. Yes, there are times when you might be startled a bit when Jaws appears out of the water, but in my opinion, not very scary.
Oooh wait!! We rode it during they day this trip and then for the first time at night .... night was awesome and had a little more "Aaaaghhhhh!!!!" factor. So let me ask the girls again ...
Me: "Girls! What about at night? Was Jaws scarier at night?"
Jaws may be a bit scary for some kids but not for adults. There is one part where you go into the boathouse and it's dark and the boat rocks a little but there are no drops or anything like that. My 11 year old was afraid to go on most rides this trip but he loved the Jaws ride.
been on jaws...not scary...you can "kinda" anticipate when something is going to happen.....knowing it's all fake anyway.....nah, not scary....... i believe DS said something about "boring"
Probably would only be scary to a real young child, (3-5) (if that) in my opinion its pretty tame, but I'm an adult (at least age wise!!), not scary at all to me, but nothing really is. The only thing at U I personally would put in the scary category would be the Mummy, but I love that ride.
ROTM in Hollywood has faux fire. I have not been on that one, but have heard about it. The flame effects appear very close to your railcar, but am not sure if any heat is generated from a different source.

My 8 year old refused to ride. My 10 year old liked it and felt bad that his brother missed it. Our 5 year old rode it and got frightened when the fire shot out. You ride in a boat, so we put her in the middle and she was somewhat limited as to what she could see.
