OK, struggling a little here with banking, borrowing, and transferring points.

If our contract goes through, we'll soon have 150 points at BWV to go with our VWL contract. Yippie! My understanding is that we'll have a new membership number to go with this new contract, yes? Both contracts have the same use year, thank goodness.

I know that you have to use points from one contract to be eligible for the 11 month window. In my example, if I have 150 BWV points and want to make ressies that take 200, I'd have to borrow from the next use year. So far, so good.

BUT - since I'll have a seperate contract with a different membership number with VWL, can I transfer from that contract? Does that fall under the same transfer rules we'd use if we were transferring between members?

The issue is being able to take advantage of that 11 month window. If anyone's had any experience with this, I'd love to hear from you.

Gosh, this was long, and doesn't make much sense. Help!

Yes, you can transfer points between the two home resort contracts, but the transferred points will always retain their original home resort status and their 11/7 reservation priority- so there is little benefit to transfer them for that purpose.

Sorry I can't help, as I am new at this, but I am wondering how it works to transfer points from other members???

Thanks!

MS will handle all of the details. The other member needs to authorize the transfer to your account and MS will handle the process.

Technically, there is to be no monetary transaction involved with a transfer of points. In reality, MS probably has no way to police this.

Good Luck!

Thanks Doc. So if one member were to rent points to another (no monetary exchange of course, that they know about) you can transfer the points into that persons account? How does the use year and home resort figure in. Would they have to have the same home resort to be used for the 11 month rule? IE, I could rent BWVV points and have them transferred to my BWV account and use them all with the 11 month window??

Thanks so much!!!

Erika

The use year and resort will retain their original status for the transferred points. If they are the same home resort as your own points, they may also be used at 11 months at that resort.

Enjoy!

Actually I think you will have the same use member number with a qualifier at the end. Something like 88888-001 and 88888-002. As Doc noted, you will not be able to bypass the 11 month home priority window by transferring from one contract to another.

elgeber, only "current" year points can be tranferred, not banked or borrowed. This gets a little confusing as you could transfer 2003 points to another 2003 account. When it's multiple contracts of one member they are pretty lax and you can then tranfer banked and borrowed points in that situation if you need to. They handle these situations on a case by case basis so there is no written rule for the flexibility used when it's a single owner.

When the contract is completely different, for example, 150 pts at BWV and 150 pts at OKW, your membership numbers are completely different, and it's like a different person owns each set of pts. It's different with add-ons, they are attached to your existing contract and its use year, even though the pts may be at a different resort. You can transfer from one account to another, but it's an extra step you don't need to take. Since you have to wait till the 7 month window anyway, you can just use the other account to make the rest of the ressies you need to make. I have transferred from one of my accounts to the other one, but it's mainly so I can keep track of left over pts from the first contract. Since you can only make one move per group of pts, once I move my pts to the other account, they can't be moved again, or banked into a different year, or transferred to another person, they have to be used by the end of their original use year. Now, I have been told by an experienced renter of my points that once the pts go into someone else's contract, the pts are just mixed up, and MS can't tell the difference, so that the use year becomes the same as the contract's use year that the pts were transferred to, but I only had his word for that, I've never tried it myself.

That was what I thought but we've had several people tell us lately that they bought resale the same use year but a different resort and their number was the same with a qualifier.

That intrigues me, Cruelladeville, because what your renter has told you sure would play into favor with those of us who have multiple contracts, not add-ons. The member's guide is sort of convoluted at that point. How helpful would MS be at that point? I guess the surefire soultion would be to keep banking and borrowing within one contract and not do a lot of "shifting around."

Some days I think I'm a pro at this stuff ... others, I feel like the biggest goober in all of creation. I guess we'll see when the new contract goest through.

The intermingling of points has been discussed. There is no advantage there and a potential disadvantage. The issue goes something like this, lets say I transfer points from my April to my August use year for 2003. The concern Cruelladeville is discussing would say that I would not be able to make a reservation with those transferred April points between April and August of 2003 but they would expire the end of March of 2004. I would effectively lose 4 months of use. This is contrary to the legal paperwork and all instructional info I've seen but it was reported recently.
