Reading some of the recent YC reports are getting me a little nervous. I am booked on the Concierge floor December 2-9 and I am getting scared. This is a special trip for Mom and me, a special birthday and Christmas present for her. I want it to be as perfect as possible. Reassurance??? Please???

I've been on the DIS since 1998....there's always someone complaining about something on every single resort. There are folks who don't like the decor of every one of them...think the CM's are snarly(my new fave word)....the bellman didn't bow deep enough...yada yada yada.

If you go with a positive attitude, you'll have a great trip. Have fun!:)

Pollyanna is right. You aren't going to find one resort that people don't complain about. Most of the complaints on these boards seem to be about CM's whether it be housekeeping or the front desk and to me that is very subjective. Besides if you find you aren't enjoying your stay you can always move somewhere else (hopefully there is availabilty elsewhere);) I just can't get over how some of these people had such an awful time and just took it all in. You are spending a lot of money don't wait until you get home to complain, do it while you are there:) Have a great time the new lounge looks great. Some day I hope to stay at the YC. Just a word of caution I wouldn't expect perfection but rather a trip that would be memorable:D

I stayed at the YC concierge for the first time August 18 and I loved it. The staff was wonderful. I wasn't too sure about the decor of the room before we went but I liked it. The location can't be beat

Here are some YC concierge pictures

and here is my Trip report about our arrival, the room, etc.

They just finished the renovations on the YC concierge floor and I have read it looks beautiful. How perfect is that? We are going on Nov. 8 to Nov. 13 and can't wait. First time for the YC, hopefully not our last.:D

I just stayed there. It wasn't a bad place, it just didn't have the personality or charm that some other resorts have offered.

I found the lounge to be a bit stiff, not as relaxed and casual as others, and the concierge staff were always polite, but some wanted to bend over backwards while others were so-so, or just not as helpful.

The only resort that I really HATED the concierge experience was the GF.

Would I go back to the YC? Maybe. But I do prefer others. It's not taht they are bad, it's just that I like others much more. Hope that makes sense.

I believe that a large part of the Disney magic is in your own mind and attitude. If one CM isn't as pleasant as I had hoped they would be, I just smile, put it out of my mind, and go about my merry way. Ususally when I get home I can't even remember the incident. I've never let a room mix-up, late buses, wrong charges, etc. spoil my vacation. I just decide what needs to be done about it and then go off to have a good time.

As was mentioned prior there have always been some bad experiences posted on these boards at one time or another with every resort. That's why I kinda get annoyed when some people pick on "NON" disney owned resorts because they aren't Disney owned.

Everyone can have a bad experience anywhere. We're no exception, we had some bad experiences, but not bad enough to entirely ruin our trip. We've returned to the same resorts too and have had great experiences the next time.

The same goes for restaurants too. You can have a great meal at a specific establishment and even go back a few days later and have a not so great meal. That also happened to us on one trip.

Please don't let these posts scare you. The "good" experiences much further outweight the "bad".

I have to comment about YC. We never stayed there, but during our last visit we parked valet there to eat at the restaurants there. The valet staff was great, 4 yr old dd would only let "the man" take her out of her car seat, not mommy, I thought that was great. And, they remembered her because of that and her name! And, we weren't even resort guests there!

Just to add, if you ever encounter a problem at a resort, make sure to ask for a supervisor or manager if you encounter "attitude" from a CM. Sometimes they don't TOTALY fix things but they do try to take care of what they can.

Your vacation will be what YOU make it to be! Please don't excpect CM's to make or break your vacation for you. Disney World is such a wonderful place and there are plenty of HAPPY experiences if you happen to have some bad ones.

Our family loves the YC and will be back at the concierge level in November. People are people and I don't expect them to make my vacation happy. But I will complain if they do something that makes things (unreasonably) unhappy..

I'm tired...can you tell? Now it seems that it's the YC's turn to get bashed.

Love the place...love the location...love the sights...

I have to agree with the above posters and say that while I've never been to YC (would LOVE to) we had the same situation with CBR last year. Lots of posts about it being old, run down, in the middle of refurb ...we almost expected it to be falling apart. When we got there quite frankly we didn't notice any of it. I even tried really hard to picture what the others may have seen. Also, we have to remember that it is a hotel for goodness sake and lots and lots of people trapse through it all day and night..it is going to show SOME wear. Hoever, most of the time I think a microscope would be needed to find it. You are going to get there and love it and forget that there were ever any negative posts...attitude is everything!

Enjoy...

I guess I'm just a little obsessive about my trip. Thanks for the reassurance and tips.

The Yacht Club is beautifully designed and stunningly executed. You feel like a million bucks when you stay there. I would have no qualms in recommending the hotel to anyone. But, after all, this is a discussion board, and people have things to say. I did feel that the CMs were rude in '97 at the Yacht Club. On the same trip, the CMs at the Wilderness Lodge were dreamboats. So there you go--it does not REALLY matter in the long run how you are treated, but it sure leaves a bad taste in your mouth, as you're handing over thousands of dollars to stay there.
To answer some of the remarks on this thread--YES, I DID ASK to speak to someone in authority at the front desk, and THEY had the same attitude. My concerns dealt with things that can be found on another YC thread and were legitimate complaints on my part. I work in a service-oriented job and attain to be helpful and pleasant until the minute I put the key in my car door.
You don't know how you'd feel until it happens to you. Go easy on us who enjoy the freedom this wonderful board gives us. As I've said many times, I would still go back to the YC because it is a special resort in the most magical place in the world.
All the best, Wilma:wave:

Very well said, Wilma. :D

Now that is a MAGICAL attitude! Thanks for sharing that. I'm going to try to keep that in mind on our trip in Nov.

Since the YC has been totally refurbished by now (from what I just read), this should be a totally wonderful hotel experience. I have been going on a regular basis to DW since 1995 and have stayed at every resort except for CSR and Y&B. Never had a bad time and never even had a problem I felt needed the attention of a manager or supervisor. It's my dream vacation and I get to experience it about 2 times a year, sometimes 3. There is no better place in the world to me than DW. Can't wait for November for our first concierge stay since CT back in 1996. I am sure we won't be disappointed because we have visited the YC numerous times and have wanted to stay there for years. Enjoy your upcoming stay as well.:D :D

YAY!!!!! Don't let the negative posts scare you! The YC is a great place with its own ambience, and the CMs for the most part are professional, & will go out of their way to make your stay a great one. Have a good time, because pixie dust is with you!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YC RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
