OK, so really...how bad is the Sci-Fi?

It's pretty cool how they take you to your car and that's all I'll say about that so not to ruin it for you.

Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me!

Wait! Don't tell me! I'll see for myself soon enough! As much as I hate surprises, I LOVE them! Does that make any sense?

HURRY UP, JUNE!

Thanks everyone...great feedback! And so much of it was positive!!! We'll definitely be keeping our ADR and I'm really looking forward to how the kids will like it. Like most of you said...we'll be perfectly happy with burgers, fries, and milkshakes. We've Boma, Ohana, and the other biggies covered on this trip also...just wanted to do something a little different this time around. Sci-Fi it is!

Thanks again for the awesome feedback. The food boards are so good!

I am definitely not a food snob, and for me my picks are all about atmosphere. So SciFi Drive In is always a must-do! Love the Reuban & Onion Rings. I'm taking a 7-year old boy in December, so this is absolutely a MUST DO! (We have a lunch ADR.)

If you go in expecting a great atmosphere and Applebee's level of food, you shouldn't be disappointed. Personally, I've never had a bad meal there. :thumbsup2

Its not bad its a semi quick pit stop......The food is alright not great , not the usual high quality Disney food but better then anything Universal has.....

My DH and I ordered the same thing just last week there. Dh liked his I HATED mine the shrimp was WAY too fishy. ICK! The kids thought theirs was good. Atmosphere was fun service was good. Over all I a glad we tried it.I probably won't go back unless one of the ids picks it next trip.

I'm not sure what to say about you shrimp being "too fishy" other than it is fish ~ not sure what you mean :confused3 :goodvibes

The kids are more adult eaters than kids meal eaters and I had to fight them off of my plate :scared1: They too loved the shrimp. We are from the Northeast and tend to not like warmwater shrimp & lobster as much as cold, but ours was quite good and not overcooked or dry. There are always variations in quaility and preperation and I hope if you do go again your meal is better. :wizard:

I thought it was pretty decent--and I was expecting the worst after reading the horrible reviews on here. The food was ok--the only thing I didn't like was that our car was right by the door going into the lobby. So, it wasn't very dark and the light was always shining in--so the atmosphere was not as cool as it could have been.

We enjoy it.
DS 12 is celebrating his birthday next week and said Sci Fi is his favorite place to eat in all of WDW. I booked ADR's kind of late, so I was very relieved I got a lunch there.
Our family just loves to watch the silly movies and ads. My boys sit together and I can't believe they don't fight --reason enough to go there for me.

DH and I love the Reuben sandwich.

We went in 2007 and just loved it. Our three kids had a blast sitting and eating in the cars and seeing the old movie trailers they had a lot of questions about those movies.

The food was great as well as the desserts and service was wonderful too you'll all have a really fun time there.

And also if you end up having to "share" a car with another group.... :rotfl2:

One year when we were desperate for a dinner, we got a LAST MINUTE ADR at Sci-Fi. I was really disappointed to hear that it was the only place available (especially since we were at AK at the time) mainly because we read so many terrible reviews. It turned out to be one of our most fun meals. The atmosphere is really great fun - the kids thought it was so cool to eat at the tables in the shape of cars. The food was also pretty good. My husband and I got steaks that were some of the best food that we ate the whole time we were in the world. The only thing I would say is that this is not the place for conversation unless it is just two of you. You can't face each other if you have more than 2 in your party. Someone has to sit in the back seat!

I hate to see people change minds about ADR's, just b/c of negative reviews here on the DIS. If your instinct led you to make an ADR there to begin with, go with it and decide for yourself. If we'd trusted the boards, we would never have eaten at Ohana (LOVED it!) or Whispering Canyon (LOVED it! It's now tradition!).

But, FWIW, we've eaten there three times (all lunch) and have always had a great time. One time we had a waiter who screwed up our check, but not a big deal. Our party is eating at 50's PT this coming trip and we have some whiners in our group that they're going to miss SciFi. :rotfl:

I agree with this! Everyone has different tastes and opinions, that is what makes us unique. Do not cancel an ADR based on a few bad reviews, people are more likely to take the time to make a negative review than a positive.

It was OK 2+ years ago....we are trying it again on the 20th. The ambiance is pretty cool! I will "tweet" some pics. If anyone is interested I have a Twitter link in my signature.

help for a newbie please..first trip in february..

what is the link for adr? for online..

and...any chance of just walking up on off hours..late lunch or early lunch type thing.(2adults and 2 kids).we dont know what parks on what days.....

thanks

Uhhhhh, the kids loved the atmosphere. I strongly disliked the food. I would go again if the kids insisted, but I would just stick with dessert. But hey, it's Disney, better than being at home having to make dinner, right? :thumbsup2

We tried it for the first time this past May. Overall it was a hit with everybody in my family. We all enjoyed the atmosphere; the kids were totally into the old movies; the food was OK but not great. The only memorable part of the food was that we all had hot fudge sundaes for dessert. They tasted heavenly, and were served in very tall glasses with tall spoons to match.

Oh please, I couldn't disagree more!!! Either way how does Universal always get dragged into these things? :sad2:

Anyway, the food is only so-so but it's not THAT bad IMO. Go for the atmosphere - it's fun! :thumbsup2

It is not that bad. If you are worried stick with safe foods like a sandwhich! I remember having a humgous sandwhich there. I think it was a club sandwhich. The deserts are really good! My son loved what he had to eat. I personally do not like eating in dark rooms. That is my only issue with this place and it was so cold! If you are going in the warmer months it is a nice break!

I agree 1,000% with (all of) this!

oh, and I also loved the atmosphere!

You know, taste in food is very subjective. For instance, we hated Boma and Coral Reef, two restaurants that the folks on the Dis seem to enjoy. We had lunch at Sci Fi last year, we all had burgers and they were all pretty good. I would eat there again.

SO TRUE!!!! Taste is so subjective. It is nice to hear so many people like it. Makes me think that we went on an off night. Then again I think sometimes being a vegetarian I have limited places to eat at wdw.
