So the Question is ......\

Do you have your groceries put in a BAG or a SACK.

In NY we are BAG people..
\
One time in AZ I bought a Soda ( POP) and wanted a BAG but the Gentleman asked me if...
I wanted my POP in a SACK!!
So say that real fast and you can imagine what I was thinking!!

Everywhere I have lived (in Texas and Oklahoma), the two words are pretty much synonyms and can be used interchangeably.

Bags, they are easier to carry.

It's a bag here.

Though I did have someone tell me they were going to "make groceries" and carry them home in a poke :p

We use plastic bags.
Once in a while we use a paper bag.

We pretty much use bag and sack interchangably as well, but usually groceries are in sacks. Trash is in bags.

BTW, What do those who prefer to say "bag" call the people who sack (um...bag) the groceries? We call them sack boys. Do you call them bag boys?

Bag boy, bag boy, whatcha gonna do? If you squish my bread I'm gonna come for you!

Sorry...it's getting late

Laurie

What's the difference? Our choices here are "paper" or "plastic". I use plastic.

Edit to add: we use the term "bag" and we have "bag boys". I'm pretty sure I never use "sack", although, I know what it means.

Hmm, I'm thinking... I know we call them trashbags... I think we call them "walmart bags" as in get me a walmart bag out from under the sink to put this stuff in.
LOL
I think they ask "paper or plastic bags"- unless they just say paper or plastic.

I think the only thing around here locally we call 'sacks' are like sack lunches... as in bring sack lunch for field trip. LOL

Yes, we call them bagboys. Sackboys?? That sounds um... odd. LOL

We don't have sacks for lunches. We have brown bags.

And while we're at it, I have a sofa...not a couch.

I eat dinner, not supper.

LOL!

They are bags here, when and if we have have people bagging the groceries we call them baggers.

I have a friend from Oklahoma who calls her purse a sack.

Bag here & it's plastic:D

Bags.

Couch.

Pop.

Dinner.

LOL!!

Not sure if it's a regional thing or an industry one, but my DH and I have both been in some part of the retail grocery business for 25 years and we live in the midwest, so I am not sure which is the reason, but we always say sack!! My dh would hire more sackers, call more sack help, sack all day, go sack for awhile... I can't think of a time he ever used the word bag.

Here in NH it is a "bag". THe people who put the groceries in the bag are called "baggers"....................P

i call them sacks.

ofcouse i used to work at a grocery store and we called the people the sacked groceries....sackers aka if they weren't doing there job slackers!!!

Pam

And I thought if they didn't do their job they'd get sacked ;)

We call them bags.
And the people that put the stuff in them are baggers. I've never heard anyone refer to them as sacks.
