We always go the week after the 4th, but the new Value Season starts in Aug. now. We went the first week of Aug. once and it seemed so much rainier than July. True? Or we just hit a rainy week which can happen any time?

And is it any hotter early to mid Aug. than July?

Just so you know. I was born and raised and WV.

I have lived in southern TX and Louisiana for 16 years.

August is typically the hottest, most humid month in the south. It really starts getting unbearable during the end of July and lasts through most of August. Our highest A/C bills are always highest in July and August.

It will be hot. REally hot. Like 95-105 degrees everyday with 60-100% humidity... heat indexes sometimes soar up to 115 degrees. Then the wind blows and you feel like you are in a dryer.

I went to WDW in July when I still lived in WV. My tennis shoes soles literally melted to the black pavement. I threw them away when I got home. REgardless, we had a blast. One of my most memorable vacations with my family (and we took 2 every year).

Just be prepared and take an afternoon break. You will be fine.

Edited to add: The "rainy season" typically starts in August, although the past 2 years have been very dry, we are in a dry cycle of weather (my husband works in agriculture) so they are not predicting a very wet rainy season this year... still expect below average rainfall. But you know what they say in south... "don't like the weather? wait 15 minutes, it will change!"

From DC where it seems it is always hazy, hot, and humid in August--so dont see it any worse in Orlando. Last couple time down in August it was actually less hot than here. Plus ease of swimming pools helps that out as well. If you go after Aug 15 when local Orlando schools head back to school parks are less crowded.

We were considering going in August to take advantage of Free Dining. My sister lives in Florida. She talked me out of it! Here is how she described Florida in August & September:

Go into your bathroom, turn the shower on as hot as possible, let it run for about 10 minutes. Put on your summer clothes and then do some light exercises (similar to walking in WDW), then just hang out in the steam and hot moist air for about 20 minutes. Does it bother you? If not, come on ahead. If you don't like it then don't come to Florida in August!

So I'll be visiting her again in April for Spring Break!! :thumbsup2

Note: She said July was hot, not real great, but tolerable. She also said it will rain almost every afternoon in August.

OMG!!!You have me cracking up so badly!!!!Ok, I'll try and encourage them to pny up the extra $$$ to go in July...tell your DS she is an absolute riot....and thanks for the laugh!

I've lived in the mid-atlantic region all my life. I have taken 3 consecutive late August trips to Orlando. I was really afraid to go the first time. I do not think it is any hotter there than here. I have NEVER experienced the toxic humidity there, that I have had here. Sure it's hot, especially between 12 - 2pm. But there are enough indoor attractions to keep you cool. Drink lots of water. Take an afternoon pool break. In late August it rains every afternoon, like clock work. It cools everything down. Night time is fine. Again, I have NEVER experienced the stiffling humidity that we have here.

I was at the world last year during Labor Day and the weather was perfect. Low 90's during the day, a breeze, and low humidity. It's the humidity, not the heat that stinks.

P.S. I am going again this August for trip #4.

That statement is so true about weather it will change in 15 minutes. I lived in the deep south weather changes so much. I only know 2 seasons winter and summer.

To stay cool in the summer drink water and powerade to replace the fluids you is losing.
