Ok -- So it Happened!

Congratulations to my very good friend NedsTJ!!! O M G, I am so happy for both of you! You go, boy! btw, I know you didn't "need" the pixie dust of Disney, but I'm sure it made the moment all the more special. Wishing you every happiness, :tink:

Congrats! I'm very happy for you! Can't wait to hear the details.

How Awesome! Sunset Pointe has a very special place in my heart and is so romantic!

(I'm breaking this into a few posts as writing this up is taking a lot longer than i thought it would!)

The trip to WDW occured the first week of February, 2009. I have been there many times, but my GF had NEVER been (not once, not at all:scared1:!) So when my brother asked us back in the summer if we wanted to join them there for the week, we said "sure...", but made our own plans and room arrangements, LOL (he has 3 girls 6 & under!). Long story short, 1 week in a 1 Bedroom unit at the Beach Club Villa's next to Epcot. Ended up with a 4th floor, Spaceship Earth view! Very cool. If we stood on the balcony, we could see the fireworks of Illuminations. (Room 473 for those wanting to know, LOL!)

She had never been there, so everything was new to her. She was afraid she wouldn't like it, as her conception of it was "its for kids, isn't it??"....I think we changed that opinion within an afternoon, LOL. Anyway, Saturday was Epcot (dinner at the Rose & Crowne), Sunday was MK, Monday was a surprise Segway Tour in the Morning and Epcot in the afternoon, with Jellyrolls in the Evening. (BTW, do the Segway Tour around World Showcase...very cool!).

Tuesday was the big day (for me, anyway!). She knew we had dinner plans at Narcoossee's, but not much else. By this point she was already absolutely loving the trip (separate full trip report to come later, LOL!) We started the day by getting up late (as we do, LOL) and heading to AK. I knew from previous experience that it wouldn't take long to do, and we could be out of there by 3-4pm...plenty of time to get ready. The crowds were light, and we did almost everything we wanted to, except walk thru the nature trail to see the tigers.

We got back to the room around 4, took a nap for a bit, then got ready to go. I grabbed the camera, my camera bag and my “corny Disney backpack”. Into which I place the camera bag…which had a certain box hidden inside it.

Dinner reservations at Narcoossee’s were for 8:35pm. We leave the Beach club around 6:50, and take a cab over to the Polynesian. I opted for this route rather than Bus-to-monorail transfer, much easier, LOL. We headed up to the Tambu (sp?) Lounge for a few drinks, and manage to get a seat at the bar. I was taken aback at how busy the Poly was! She had a Mint Mohito (her favorite) and I settled for a Captains Mai Tai. I’m not a Mohito fan, but the Mai Tai they made was fantastic. Most drinks I’ve had at Disney I can never taste the alcohol, or they load it down with ice. Not this one, it was perfect…just the additional courage I needed, LOL!

At 7:50 we leave the bar and head down to the beach. The plan was to go out to Sunset point and watch the fireworks from there…on the way there she commented on “why did you bring that bag? Here we are, dressed up and you insist on bringing that with you!” I took it good naturedly…if she only knew at the time! We walk out towards Sunset point, but I can already see someone sitting up on the bench, arg! So I just start looking for an isolated spot along the beach, but instead found a place on the grass just before you get to the bench, on the left side.

(BTW, have I mentioned it was cold? I’m not talking chilly…I’m talking downright cold! Apparently we chose to vacation in Florida while they had scheduled record low temperatures. I swear it was in the 40’s while we were on that darn beach!!)

The fireworks start. Luckily we had seen them the other night (from in front of the castle, very cool…she got to see Tinkerbell slide down the wire and was just thrilled by that!) so I knew about how long they’d last. Halfway thru I made the act of getting out my camera to take some shots while I palmed the box into my pocket. I took 1 or 2 photos and then mumbled something about “eh, this isn’t going to work out”. Meanwhile, she’s enjoying the fireworks but getting cold (have I mentioned the cold yet???) and starts to say “Maybe we can start walking back while they’re still going on…” Yea, not part of the plan yet. So I simply take my jacket off and put it over her shoulders....I was too nervous to notice the cold!

Ok, now or never. I lean into her and say “Why don’t you close your eyes and make a wish?” She does…but I think the she started to catch on as she started trembling, LOL. While the eyes were shut I dropped to one knee, and (after taking a moment) said “Ok, open them….is this what you wished for?” Hands to her mouth, she could barely talk. She nods yes, and I slip the ring on her hand. At this point I had forgotten all about the cold, LOL. The fireworks are still going off and she’s pretty much in tears. :) A minute or two later she turns to me and says thru chattering teeth “Can we go back inside now?”

The next part involved walking from the Poly to the GF for dinner….but have I mentioned how cold it was that night?? We took the Monorail instead. I think she was floating all the way back as I really can’t recall the walk back itself, LOL. But luckily we did. The monorail drops you off on the 2nd floor of the GF….and just inside the door was a PhotoPass portrait setup manned by the two best Photopass photographers we’ve met all week. We discovered PhotoPass early in the trip and were making the most of it!!

We took that as an opportunity and told them we literally just got engaged and wanted a few shots….they did more than that. I think we ended up with about 25 shots in many different poses. They were fantastic. We spent about 15 minutes with them as they had us recreate the moment, posed us with the ring, out on the balcony, etc. Very, Very cool. I think (she remembers, I don’t) that their names were Tami and Jay….if you see them there say hello for me!

By now we are running late for dinner…8:35 has turned into 8:50, LOL and we still have to get from the GF lobby to Narcoossee’s…which we do, but only had to wait 10 minutes or so for a table. I certainly told them what just occurred…but no specials came of it (bummer!). I honestly forget what we ordered…I do remember the wine though…We bought a bottle of the Disney Imagine Chardonnay, which was selected especially for the Celebrations theme….it was excellent. (at $50 a bottle it better be, LOL!) They boxed up the bottle for us. And the dessert…I think I have a photo of it somewhere….will have to post it later…it was excellent as well. The food overall was excellent, definitely my most favorite place to eat at WDW now.

So, halfway thru dinner who do we see come in? But the PhotoPass people! They had just ended their shift at 10pm, and brought us an 8x10 of the two of us, plus 4 each 4x6’s of two different poses (me on my knee and out on the balcony with the lights of the GF behind us). They had added graphics “Where Dreams do come true!” and Tinkerbell to the photos. They also gave us some Pixie Dust Pins and the ever popular “Just Engaged” pins to wear in the parks! Very cool guys, very cool. I need to send the Customer Service a letter specifically thanking them for making the night that much more special.

After dinner, we headed back to the Resort. I don't think I could have planned anything any better, LOL. It was all very magical and by far the best memories I'll ever have at Disney!

The next morning we have a character breakfast scheduled with the rest of the Family (Brother, SIL, 3 Neices (6 and under), Mom and Mom's Sister). We decide to wait until someone notices the ring...and wait...and wait...Arg! Finally, Minnie comes around again and I stand up and say I want a photo with Me, her and Minnie. I whisper to Minne to "look at the ring" and that's all it took. She played that part fantastically! She looked at it, then did that stagger back they do, then held her hand again and looked at me...at this point the family got it. It was great! I will post some photo's later this weekend, but there are some priceless ones of Minnie looking at the ring. She also wrote a nice message on the paper table cloth that we took back with us. Again, another magical Disney Moment that we were able to share with family this time!

Thanks for reading thru all this! Photo's will come shortly, I hope!

Awwwww. That is soo sweet! Congrats to the both of you! I love disney for it's magical moments! I swear all you need is a little pixie dust.... and of course the PHOTOPASS CM's!!! Congrats again!

Congratulations and Best Wishes.

I'm looking forward to the photos. The engagement sounds magical.

We will have to wait for the photopass CD to put up more photo's but here are a few from the following morning. (taken from my SIL's iPhone)

:goodvibes

It worked for me! I said yes to the "close your eyes and make a wish"... anything you do will be special. If she is expecting something thats ok, most brides "have a hunch" and we still say yes!

Throw her off maybe. Tell her there is a very special thing that is going to take place on the last day... and then she will think it's happening that day.

My DF gave me a necklace first, he helped me put it on and when I turned around I was looking at a ring. I thought that the necklace was my present. See if you can be sneaky that way1
